국문 초록

한국근대사에 있어서 항일의병사는 매우 중요한 위치를 점하고 있다. 항일의병사는 나라와 민족의 자주권을 지키기 위한 역사였고, 독립운동으로 이어지는 등 대한민국의 정통성과 밀접한 관계가 있기 때문이다. 항일의병들은 나라의 운명이 풍전등화(風前燈火)의 위급한 상황에 처할때면, 주저 없이 목숨을 초개 같이 버릴 각오를 하고 전장(戰場)으로 나아갔다. 결국, 의병정신은 저절로 머리가 숙연해질 수밖에 없는 숭고한 희생정신으로서 ‘초과의무’를 상징하는 대표적인 덕목이라고 해도 과언이 아니다. 공동체의 성숙과 발전, 나아가 그 존속은 그 구성원들이 자신이 하지 않아도 될 일을 스스로 감당하는 자기희생이나, 자발적 헌신을 수반하는 초과의무를 내면화하고 있을 때 훨씬 용이한 법이다. 따라서 한 국가가 건강하고 강한 나라가 되기 위해서는 그 구성원인 국민이 바로 이 초과의무를 행동의 기초로 삼을 때임은 두말할 필요가 없다. 특히 대한민국이 대내외적으로 안보위기 상황에 처한 상황에서 국민 모두가 다시금 ‘의병정신’을 되새겨야 할 필요가 있다고 판단된다. 오늘날 전쟁 양상은 총력전(Total War)이라는 점에서 국민정신 역시 국가안보 강화에 있어서 매우 중요한 요소라는 점을 잊어서는 안 된다. 본 논문에서는 이진룡 의병장의 사례를 통하여 초과의무의 덕목을 생각해보고 그 의의를 살펴보고자 한다.

영문 초록

In Korean modern history, the history of anti-Japanese volunteer soldier resistance have a very important position. Because this history was to protect the sovereignty of the nation and people, and it leads to independence movement, closely related to the legitimacy of the Republic of Korea. When the fate of the nation was in an emergency of wind-power lighting, the anti-Japanese volunteer soldiers went to the battlefield with no hesitation, ready to throw away their lives. In the end, it is no exaggeration to say that the spirit of volunteer soldier is a representative virtue that symbolizes 'supererogation' as a sublime sacrifice spirit. The maturity and development of the community, and even the survival of it, is much easier when its members internalize supererogation, accompanied by self-sacrifice or voluntary commitment. Therefore, it is not necessary to say that in order for a country to become a healthy and strong country, it is when the people use this supererogation as the basis of action. In particular, it is necessary for all the people to reconsider the spirit of volunteer soldier in the situation where the Republic of Korea is in a security crisis both inside and outside the country. It should not be forgotten that the national spirit is also a very important factor in strengthening national security in the view that the aspect of war today is a total war. In this paper, we will consider the virtues of supererogation through the case of Lee Jin-Ryong, a chief of anti-Japanese volunteer soldiers, and look at the significance.
