천주교 환경운동의 내용과 발전 전략

국문 초록

우리 사회는 급속한 산업화 경제 성장을 이룩해 왔다. 경제 발전 성장이 가져다주는 결과 이익에도 불구하고 인간의 정주환경에 미치는 부정적 영향이 적지 않다. 이것은 21세기 인류가 직면하고 있는 가장 큰 도전이자 해결해 나가야 할 과제로 우리에게 주어지고 있다. 가톨릭교회는 환경문제를 해결하는 것을 신앙의 중요한 문제로 인식하고 있다. 가톨릭교회가 함께한 인간과 환경 관련 운동을 살펴보면 1990년 초기에 환경에 대한 관심으로 시작되었지만 가톨릭 환경운동이 사회 환경 단체의 환경운동과 큰 차별성이 없이 진행되어 왔다. 최근의 가톨릭교회 안을 들여다보면 가톨릭 농민회가 주체가 된 한살림운동, 우리밀 살리기 운동, 우리농촌 살리기 차원의 생명 운동의 실천, 소비자생활협동조합 등 가톨릭 신자들의 환경 의식을 고취하기 위한 풀뿌리 환경운동들이 진행되고 있다. 30여년의 이런 움직임에 대해 반성의 계기가 왔다. 이른바 ‘환경’이라는 이름이 귀에 익숙하게 들어오면서 살아온 지 30년이 넘었다. 되돌이켜 보면 그 많은 날을 환경문제를 제기했지만 갈수록 환경은 나아지는 것이 아니라 나빠지는 쪽으로 가고 있음을 부인할 수 없다. 환경문제는 간단하지 않다. 우리의 삶의 근본 문제라는 인식을 전제로 삶의 태도를 바꾸는 것이어야 한다. 너와 나 우리 모두가 더불어 살려면 삶의 태도를 바꾸어야 한다. 신앙은 삶의 태도로 그 진정성을 나타낸다. 그 삶의 현장은 정주환경이다. 이 정주환경에 대한 신앙인의 태도에 관하여 교회회칙이 올해 6월 18일에 선포되었다. 우선 참으로 반가운 일이다. 교황회칙은 가톨릭교회의 신앙인의 기본규범을 제시하기 때문에 그 영향력이 대단히 크다. 이 회칙은 환경 문제에 대한 교회의 회칙 가운데 환경문제를 다룬 교회 공식적인 문헌이어서 그 의미도 적지 않다.

영문 초록

The Korean society has achieved a rapid economic growth. Inspite of the profits according to the economic development, negative effects influencing the settlement environment for the mankind is great. This task is given to us as the biggest challenge the mankind is facing and as a problem needs to be solved. The Roman Catholic Church is identifying the solving of environmental problems as a significant task for religious faith. Looking at the environment related movements participated in by the Catholic Church, such movements have been started with concern for environment in the early 1990s however, the Catholic environmental movement have been continued with no difference to the social environmental organization. Looking into the late Catholic Church, grassroots environmental movements such as 'Hansalim movement', 'Domestic wheat-saving movement', 'Life movement as a level of saving domestic rural areas', 'Consumer cooperatives', etc. are being proceeded to enhance the environmental awareness of Catholics. Opportunity of reflection has come to such movements for the late 30 years. It has been more than 30 years that so-called 'environment' has become familiar. Reflecting on the past situation that as the environmental problems have been suggested, environment has become worse. Environmental problem is not simple. In order to solve such problems, attitude toward life should be changed on the assumption that such problems are life's basic problems. The attitude needs to be changed in order for all of us to live together. Religious belief suggests veracity as life attitude. The life scene is settlement environment. The regulations of the Church has been proclaimed on June 18th, 2015 regarding the Catholics' attitude toward the settlement environment. First of all, it is a pleasant news. The Pope bylaw has a great influence because it suggests fundamental canons for the Catholics. This regulations have a significant meaning seeing that such bylaw is the Catholic Church's official text dealing environmental problems. The regulations of the Church shows the Contents and development strategies of catholic environmental movement. Therefore, This study aims to introduce the Pope bylaw.
