국문 초록

돈본스코 예방교육은 살레시오 수도회의 창립자인 성 요한 보스코(St. Giovanni Bosco, 1815-1888)가 자신의 온 생애를 가난한 청소년들과 함께 살면서 그들을 위하여 그들에게 헌신한 삶의 결정체이다. 돈보스코 예방교육의 ‘예방’이라는 개념은 ‘질병이나 재해 따위가 일어나기 전에 미리 대처하여 막는 일’이라는 사전적 의미보다는 훨씬 더 폭넓고 깊으면서도 미래지향적인 교육학적 의미를 닫고 있다. 청소년들로 하여금 자신이 ‘하느님의 모상(Imago Dei)’임을 깨닫도록 하여 하느님과의 우정관계를 확립하고, 이를 바탕으로 자신과의 관계를 바로 세우게 한 다음, 이를 이웃과 함께하고 나누고 봉사하는 삶을 살 수 있도록 하는 것이 기본 골격이다. 바로 이 교육으로 변화된 청소년들은 험난한 세상살이에서 자신을 잃지 않고 시류에 야합하거나 현혹되지 않고 악의 유혹에 빠지지 않으며 자신의 삶을 당당하게 살아갈 수 있도록 한다는 의미에서 고차원의 예방교육이다. 돈보스코 예방교육은 이성, 종교, 사랑이라는 세 개의 튼튼하고 안정된 기둥 위에 멋진 지붕을 올려놓은 아름다운 집으로 비유된다. 이성을 통하여 청소년들로 하여금 선과 악을 식별하게 하고, 내면의 가치를 찾아 자신이 진정 원하는 삶을 선택하도록 한다. 종교는 하느님과의 관계의 중요성을 깨닫게 하여 인간의 원초적 한계를 극복할 수 있는 길을 제시해 준다. 종교가 바로 예방교육의 토대가 됨을 알 수 있고, 바로 이점이 세상의 가치만을 제시하는 일반 다른 교육과 근본적으로 다름을 보여준다. 청소년들에게 초월적 가치, 즉 영적 가치의 세계로 삶을 확장시켜 줌으로써 현재의 삶에 보다 깊은 의미를 부여하도록 한다. 마지막으로 사랑은 하느님 사랑이다. 청소년들은 당연히 사랑을 받아야 하고 사랑안에서 자라야 한다. 이때의 사랑은 조건적인 사랑이 아닌 무조건적인 사랑, 즉 하느님 사랑이어야 한다. 사랑을 받아야만 사랑을 줄 수 있다. 세상에 사랑이 메마른 것은 이러한 사랑을 받지 못하고 그 때문에 줄 수 없는 악순환의 고리에서 찾을 수 있다. 이 악순환 고리를 선순환 고리로 바꾸는 것이 청소년기에 하느님 사랑을 듬뿍 체험하게 하는 것이다. 따라서 예방교육은 교육자들이 예방교육의 세 가지 요소를 적절하게 활용하여 청소년들이 가지고 태어난 선의 씨앗을 발견하게 하고, 이를 싹틔워 가장 아름다운 자신만의 꽃을 피우게 하는, 즉 가장 자기다운 자기로 성장하게 하는 위대한 예술로 정의된다.

영문 초록

Don Bosco Preventive System is the fruit of life that St. Giovanni Bosco (1815-1888), the founder of Salesian Congregation, had devoted to the destitute youth, of whom he lived with for his whole life. The concept of ‘prevention’ from Don Bosco Preventive System carries rather a much deeper, comprehensive and future-oriented educational meaning, than the dictionary meaning as in ‘to stop a disease or disasters from happening by coping pro-actively’ Its basic framework is as follows: 1. To help young people realize that they are the ‘Image of God’ so that they could establish a relationship with God. 2. Based on said concept, help them grow and nurture a proper self-relationship, and enable them to lead their lives that are shared with others. It is truly a high dimensional preventive system in the sense that the transformed young individual (thanks to the system) in this difficult existence can still be able to keep themselves from losing control or falling into temptation and sin, and therefore will live their lives in a dignified manner. Don Bosco Preventive System is likened to a beautiful house with nice roof and three strong pillars of: Reason, Religion, and Love. Through reasoning, it enables the young individual to distinguish good from evil, find their inner values, and choose the lives they truly want. Religion shows us the path to overcome the primal limit of humankind by making us realize the importance of relationship with God. It is clear that religion is the root of the Preventive System, which proves that it is fundamentally different from other general education systems that only present the values of the mundane world. The Preventive System helps the young individual to attach more profound meaning to their current lives by expanding their lives to the world of transcendent value, that is, spiritual values. Lastly, love is from God. The individual obviously deserves to be loved and to grow up within love. The love at this time must be unconditional love not a conditional one, that is, love by god. One can only give love if she/he receives love in the first place. The reason why love is scarce in this world can be found from a vicious circle that one cannot give love first because he/she is not loved. To transform this vicious circle to a virtuous one means to enable the individual to be showered with God’s love. Therefore the Preventive System is defined as art created by educators helping the young individual to grow up while truly being themselves at the same time by: utilizing the three elements of the Preventive System to help them find the seed of good that they were born with, and let their seeds sprout as their own, beautiful flowers.
