중소기업 연구개발 투자의 지식재산권 창출 효과 분석

국문 초록

최근 코로나 19사태로 인해 본격적인 비대면 사회로 접어들면서 정보통신기술의 융ㆍ 복합 현상이 점점 더 가속화되고 있다. 이러한 급변하는 경영환경 아래 중소기업은 지속적인 경쟁우위 창출을 위해 필요한 내부자원과 이를 적절하게 활용할 수 있는 구체적인방안에 대해 생각해 볼 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 자원 기반론을 바탕으로 연구개발 투자, 박사연구원 비중, 그리고 검사장비 수준이 지식재산권에 미치는 관계와 이러한 자원과 개발 전담 조직 수준 간의 조절 효과를 중소기업기술통계조사 데이터 11,595개를 사용하여전체산업과 산업별 실증분석을 수행하였다. 분석결과 전체산업과 산업별 모두 주 효과인연구개발 투자, 박사연구원 비중은 지식재산권과 유의한 정(+)의 영향 관계가 있으나 검사장비 수준의 경우 전체산업은 유의한 정(+)의 영향 관계가 있지만, 산업별로는 그렇지않은 것으로 나타났다. 한편 개발 전담 조직 수준의 조절 효과를 보면 전체산업의 경우연구개발 투자, 검사장비 수준과 지식재산권 간의 관계를 강화되는 것으로 나타났다. 산업별로는 개발 전담 조직 수준에 따라 전문과학서비스업을 제외하고는 제조업과 정보통신업은 연구개발 투자가 지식재산권을 창출하는데 정(+)의 영향 관계를 강화하는 것으로나타났다. 또한, 검사장비 수준과 지식재산권에 간의 정(+)의 영향 관계가 강화되는 산업은 제조업으로 분석되었다. 국내 중소기업이 향후 미국과 독일 등 전통적인 제조 강국과의 기술격차를 줄이고 기술혁신을 통해 지속적인 경쟁우위를 확보하여 탁월한 지식재산권을 창출하기 위해서는 물리적인 연구개발 투자 이외에도 인적 자본인 박사연구원 비중을 늘리고, 개발 전담 조직 수준을 상시적ㆍ 독립적으로 높여야 할 필요성이 있음을 시사한다. 또한, 산업별 연구개발 투자, 유ㆍ무형자원과의 상호작용에 필요한 혁신역량이 산업마다 각각 다르므로 산업별 특성을 면밀하게 파악하여 적용할 것을 함의한다

영문 초록

The outbreak of covid-19 has accelerated the convergence of information and communication technologies as it advanced contactless society. Based on resource-based theory, this manuscript empirically studied the influence of R&D investment, the proportion of Ph.D. research fellows, and the level of inspection equipment to intellectual property rights by industry. In addition, the moderation effect of the level of the exclusiveness of R&D organization to the linkage between the resources and R&D investment are conducted. 11,595 observations from a survey on the technology of SMEs were used for these empirical analyses. In general, the main effects showed positive influence; however, the level of inspection equipment showed different influences on intellectual property rights by industry. Moreover, the level of the exclusiveness of R&D organization reinforced the positive linkages between R&D investment and intellectual property rights, and the level of inspection equipment and intellectual property rights, while it did not moderate the linkage between the proportion of Ph.D. research fellow and intellectual property rights. Also, in the manufacturing industry, the level of the exclusiveness of R&D organizations amplified the affirmative effect of the level of inspection equipment on intellectual property rights. The industry difference must not be ignored for the decision to modify the human resource and organization capacity.
