이 연구의 목적은 대학의 교육환경이 중도탈락률에 미치는 영향을 대학의기관특성, 교육⋅연구⋅서비스 및 재정지원을 중심으로 살펴보는 데 있다. 이를 위하여대학알리미에서 제공하는 2020년의 대학공시지표를 활용하여 135개 4년제 대학을대상으로 분석을 실시하였다. 위계적 회귀분석을 통하여 개별 변인들이 중도탈락률에끼친 영향력을 살펴본 결과, 첫째, 대학의 기관 특성 변인 가운데 규모가 크고 대학혁신지원사업에 선정된 대학일수록 중도탈락률은 낮게 나타났다. 둘째, 대학의 교육지표 중 전임교원의 강의 비율은 중도탈락률과 정(+)적인 관계에 있는 반면, 전임교원1인당 학생 수, 학생 1인당 교육비는 중도탈락률과 부(-)적 관계에 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 연구 및 서비스 지표에서는 전임교원 1인당 연구비가 높을수록 중도탈락률이낮게 나타났다. 셋째, 대학의 재정환경 변인과 관련하여 학자금 대출 이용 학생 비율은중도탈락률과 유의한 부(-)적 관계가 있었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 대학의 교육환경이 중도탈락률에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지에 대한 논의를 통해 후속 연구방향을 살펴본다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of educational environment on the dropout rate at university level, focusing on the institutional characteristics, and indicators related to education, research, service, and financial aid. To this end, an analysis was conducted on 135 four-year universities using the 2020 university announcement indicators provided by the official website entitled ‘Higher Education in Korea.’ As a result of examining the influence of variables on the dropout rate through hierarchical regression analysis, first, the dropout rate was lower for universities that were large-sized and selected for national financial support projects. Second, among the university's educational indicators, the ratio of lectures by full-time faculty was found to be in a positive relationship with the dropout rate, while the number of students per full-time faculty and educational expenditure per student were found to be in a negative relationship with the dropout rate. Also, the higher the research expenditure per full-time faculty n the research and service indicators was shown, the lower the dropout rate was. Fourth, in relation to financial aid, the proportion of students using university student loans had a significantly negative relationship with the dropout rate. Based on these results, this study showed the direction of follow-up research through discussions on how the university's educational environment affects the dropout rate.
