온라인 교육을 위한 LMS 패러다임의 전환

국문 초록

연구목적: 4차 산업혁명으로 인한 정보통신 기술의 발전, 코로나19로 인한 사회환경의 변화 등으로 인해 온라인 교육은 확대되었고, 인재상 등 많은 영역에 있어 온라인 교육의 재정립을 요구하였다. 본 연구는 온라인 교육의 핵심도구인 학습관리시스템(LMS)의 역할과 기능을 조사하여 개념을 정립하고, 교육현장에서 구현하기 위한 실천방안을 구체적 예를 통하여 설명하고자 한다. 연구방법: 본 연구에서는 LMS의 역할과 기능, 필요성에 대해 체계적인 문헌고찰을 통하여 재정립하였다. 문헌연구와 사례연구를 바탕으로, LMS가 개별 학생들의 학습 피드백을 제공하고 학업 성장을돕는 학습 플랫폼의 역할로써 활용될 수 있는 구체적인 방안들을 탐색하였다. 또한, 사례분석을 통해, 도출된 LMS의 핵심 기능인 학습분석학과 온라인 평가의 적용을 설명하였다. 연구결과: 온라인 교육을 위한 LMS는 교수학습 자료를 제공할 뿐만 아니라 학생들의 학습을 지원하고 학업 성장을 측정, 예측하는 학습분석학의 기능을 갖춘 형태의 시스템이어야 하며, 온라인 평가가 내재되어 있어야 한다. 이러한 체계적인 LMS를 통해 학생들은 장소에 구애받지 않고 수업을 제공받으며, 학습에 대한 개별적인 피드백도 함께 제공받게 된다. 학술적 기여: 4차 산업 인재양성을 위한, 온라인 교육을 주도할 LMS의 연구는 학습분석학과 온라인평가의 융합학문으로써 발전할 것으로 기대된다. 또한, LMS의 효율성(effectiveness), 확장성(scalability)과 유지 가능성(sustainability)은 교육 기회의 불공정 해소와 같은 교육문제를 해결하는 도구로써의 역할을 가능하게 할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Purpose: Online education has increased due to the development of the information and communications technology and the Covid-19 pandemic, which requires to re-define foundational concepts including talented people. In this study, we examine and re-define concepts of roles and functions in LMS and demonstrate an example of LMS fitted to online education. Methods: Systematic review was applied to examine the roles and functions in LMS, which allows to re-define online education. Based on literature review and case study, we explored specific approaches of LMS to help student learning. Also, we demonstrated learning analytics and online assessment as primary functions of LMS via a well-developed LMS. Results: Study results summarize two-folds of LMS: the one is learning analytics and the other is online assessment. That is, LMS should be designated based on learning analytics that indicates student’s learning progress and predicts student’s achievement. LMS should also include ‘on-the-fly’ online assessment that measures student’s learning within online education. Based on these aspects of LMS, we introduced a LMS, called CLASS. Implications: Research on LMS for online education should be collaborated with learning analytics and online assessment, which boosts a convergence research encompassing three topics for online education. Results also inform that LMS plays a key role in cultivating people of talent for 4th industrial revolution and in improving fairness in educational opportunities.
