국문 초록

국내 교육철학 분야의 대표적인 학술지 가운데 하나인 『교육사상연구』가 창간 30주년을 맞이했다. 이를 기념하여 학술지의 지난 30년을 톺아보는 것은 한 편으로는 학술지의 독자적 면모를 밝히는 일이면서 다른 한 편으로는 국내외 교육철학 연구의 흐름과 전환점을 역사적 맥락에서 성찰하는 일이 될 것이다. 이 글은 『교육사상연구』를 대상으로 하여 10년 단위로 각 시기에 두드러지는 특징이나 전환점을 포착하고자 시도하며 교육철학의 학문적 변천사를 이해하는 데에 도움이 되는 한에서 영미권 교육철학의 흐름 또한 간략하게 살펴본다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 교육철학의 미래 과제를 구체화하기 위해 데리다의 철학에 기대어 ‘번역’ 개념을 탐구한다. 이로써 교육철학의 과제를 고정된 무엇으로 규정하기보다는 역동적인 실천과정 그 자체로 이해할 수 있는 바탕을 마련하고자 한다. 번역의 과정이 그러하듯이 낯선 것과의 만남은 기존의 질서를 변화시키며 언어의 실험과 발명은 사유를 유연하게 한다. 번역의 경험에 대한 성찰을 통해 교육철학은 언제나 자신의 바깥에 의해 유지되고 지지됨을 보이고자 한다.

영문 초록

The Korean Journal of Educational Ideas is a leading journal in the field of philosophy of education. To mark its 30th anniversary, this paper attempts to recount the historical changes and movements in the research field especially as these have been reflected in this journal. I discuss the past 30 years of the journal by treating each decade separately and by drawing attention to their distinctive features. In so doing, I also briefly discuss the anglophone contexts of the UK and the US as a means of better understanding some of the major transitions in the field. This is not just for the sake of a simple comparison, but because matters of concern in education are today inevitably linked internationally, if not universal in kind. It is edifying to consider how the priorities and patterns of research in a single journal reflect wider trends and changes in the world in education. On this basis, I discuss the future task of philosophy of education. In this, I draw upon the philosophy of Jacques Derrida and the concept of translation, attempting to show the task of philosophy of education not as something we are to define, as a destination that can simply be reached: the role of philosophy of education is not to establish a universal system or a final answer, but to be engaged in education in a dynamic way, welcoming the often messy aspects of life and teaching. The concept and experience of translation helps to reveal this by providing an encounter where different languages affect and change one another. In the end, it shall be seen that it is what is other than itself that supports and sustains the field of philosophy of education as a whole
