에른스트 카시러의 상징형식의 철학이 갖는 교육적 함의

국문 초록

연구목적 제4차 산업 혁명과 코로나19의 영향으로 첨단 과학기술이 구체적인 인간 삶의 영역으로 침투하면서 그 어느 때보다 인간의 정체성이 혼란스러운 지금의 시대에 에른스트 카시러의 인간에 대한 고찰을교육적으로 재조명해 봄으로써 향후 바람직한 교육의 방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 연구방법 카시러의 저작들 중 『인간론』, 『상징형식의 철학 제1-3권』을 중심으로 이성적 동물이라는 인간의오랜 정의에 의문을 제기하고, 상징적 동물로서 인간의 의식 전개 과정을 언어, 신화, 과학이라는 세 가지상징형식에 대응하여 각각의 특성을 살펴보았다. 특히 ‘상징’이라는 인간 사유의 특징으로부터 교육적시사점을 밝히는 데 주안점을 두었다. 연구결과 철학자 에른스트 카시러는 인간을 상징적 동물로서 정의함으로써 인간만의 고유성을 탐색한다. 더불어 그는 인간이 만들어낸 문화를 통해 인간의 존재를 알 수 있다는 전제에서 출발해 인간 문화의본질을 밝히는 간접적인 길을 택하고 있다. 상징형식은 세계를 향해 인간이 얻는 지식의 형식이며, 카시러가구상해 낸 상징형식은 신화, 종교, 언어, 과학, 예술, 역사 등의 문화형식들을 통해 나타난다. 그것들을통해 인간은 자신의 내부 및 외부와 소통이 가능하고 세계와 마음 간의 종합을 이루게 된다. 결론 카시러의 상징형식의 철학은 학습을 학습자 개개인의 경험에 근거해 스스로 의미를 구성하는 능동적인 과정으로 인식하는 구성주의 학습이론과 맥을 같이 한다. 또한 교육적 측면에서 상징은 심성함양을위한 수단으로 사용됨으로써 개인적 차원을 넘어 학습공동체를 통한 함께 성장을 도모하는 데 기여할수 있다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study examined Ernst Cassirer's study of human beings in the present era where human identity has become more confusing than ever before. This was caused by advances in science and technology that penetrated into specific areas of human life, along with the 4th industrial revolution and the COVID-19 pandemic. By re-illuminating this study with an educational focus, the researcher attempted to explore the direction of desirable education practices in the future. Methods: By focusing on 『An Essay on Man』 and 『The Philosophy of Symbolic Forms, Volume 1-3』 among Cassirer’s works, the long-standing definition of man as a rational animal is questioned, and the process of human consciousness development as a symbolic animal is explored in language, mythology, and science. In response to the three symbolic forms, the characteristics of each were examined. In particular, the emphasis was placed on revealing educational implications from the characteristic of human thought called 'symbols'. Results: As a philosopher, Ernst Cassirer explored the uniqueness of humans by defining humans as symbolic animals. In addition, he utilized an indirect way to reveal the essence of human culture, starting from the premise that human existence can be known through culture created by humans. Symbolic form is the form of knowledge that humans acquire toward the world, and the symbolic form conceived by Cassirer appears through cultural forms such as mythology, religion, language, science, art, and history. Through them, human beings can communicate with their internal and external sides and achieve a synthesis between the world and the mind. Conclusion: Cassirer's philosophy of symbolic forms is in line with constructivist learning theory, which recognizes learning as an active process of constructing meaning on the basis of each learner’s experience. In addition, symbols can promote growth simultaneously through the learning community beyond the individual level by contributing to the cultivating of the spirit.
