유아의 존재의미에 대한 탈근대적 고찰

국문 초록

존재에 대한 의미는 시대마다 다르게 이해되어 졌다. 유아존재에 대해서도 마찬가지이다. 동시대의 사상적 배경을 통해 어떠한 안경을 쓰고 보는가에 따라 의미들이 상이하게 변화되어 온 것이다. 따라서 유아존재에 대한 의미를 밝히는 과정은 시대적 맥락을 통해 가능할 것이다. 이 연구는 시대에 따라 유아존재가 어떻게 의미화되었는지 살펴보고자 하였으며, 탈근대라는 동시대성을 통해 유아의 존재의미를 다시금 재의미화 하였다. 유아의 존재의미를 살펴보면, 유아는 근대적 관점에서 미성숙한 존재로, 유아/성인이라는 이원론적 접근 속에 성숙한 존재인 성인과 대칭점에서 이해되어 졌다. 이때의 유아는 ‘-이어야 하는 존재’로서 성숙한 존재로 나아가야 하는 존재였다. 그러나 탈근대라는 시대적 변화는 유아의 존재의미에 대한 해체를 요구하였고, 유아는 더 이상 미성숙한 존재나 유능한 존재가 아닌 차연의 존재로 의미화 되었다. 유아존재에 대한 의미는 어떠한 귀착점도 가지지 않은 채, 차이와 흔적들로 존재하는 존재인 것이다. 또한, 유아는 환원될 수 없는 예외적 존재로서 ‘-으로 규정되지 않을 가능성’의 존재로 의미화 되었다. 이는 현실태로 환원시키지 않고 그 자체로 본질이 드러나는 상황을 통해 이해되어야 함을 의미한다.

영문 초록

The perspective on the being of children is closely related to ideologies of the time; ideologies provide hints that help understanding the general perception of children. The meaning of child being has never been fixed, with those of different times providing varying interpretations. As such, the current study seeks to review how the concept of child being has been signified in different eras; another goal is to employ the postmodern framework to re-signify the meaning of child being. The modern perspective understands children to be immature beings. They were analyzed under the spectral dichotomy, standing at the opposing end of adulthood. Under this system, children were aspirational beings that needed to become mature beings. The postmodern changes, however, required a deconstruction of modern meaning of child being. That is, children were now signified as beings of difference, not beings of immaturity. Furthermore, they were understood to be exceptional beings that cannot be reverted, signified as beings with potentials not to be defined as one thing. This means that the meaning of child being must be understood through situations that reveal the inherent qualities of children, rather than reverting their states of being in the actual world.
