외고 출신 대학생의 학업 서열 하락과 자기 불일치 경험에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 학업적으로 높은 서열에 있던 학생이 평균 성취 수준이 높은 학교에 진학하면서 학업서열이 하락했을 때 심리적으로 어떠한 경험을 하고 이것이 학업 수행과 학교 적응에 어떻게 나타나는지 이해하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 외국어고등학교에 진학하여 학업 서열의 하락을경험하고 목표하지 않았던 대학에 진학하게 된 대학생들을 대상으로 그들의 경험을 학업 서열의 변화와 자기불일치를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 구체적인 연구 질문은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특목고와 대학 입시 과정을 거치며 학업서열의 하락과 자기불일치를 어떻게 경험하는가? 둘째, 이러한자기불일치의 경험이 대학 생활 적응에 어떻게 나타나는가? 본 연구는 외국어고등학교를 졸업하고 수도권 대학에 진학한 여자 대학생 8명의 학습생애사를 따라가면서 이들의 경험을 이해하고자 하였다. 그 결과, 연구 참여자들은 초·중등 시절에 높은 등수와 주변의 인정으로 높은 학업서열을 형성하였으며 이를 바탕으로 외고에 입학하게 된다. 하지만 외고 입학 직후에 학업서열이 급격하게 하락하게 되고 이로 인해 이상과 실제의 자기개념 간에 불일치를 경험하게 되며이는 다시 학업 수행에 부정적인 영향을 미친다. 목표로 하지 않았던 대학에 진학하게 되면서 연구참여자들은 다시 한 번 자기불일치를 경험하게 되고 이는 초기 대학 적응에 부정적으로 작용하였으나 이를 극복하는 모습은 다양하게 나타났다. 마지막으로 이러한 연구결과가 학업서열의급격한 변화로 자기불일치를 경험하는 학생들의 상담 및 교육에 주는 시사점을 제시하고 있다

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to understand what kind of psychological experiences students in high academic rankings experience when their academic rankings fall when they enter schools with high average achievement levels and how they affect in academic performance and school adaptation. To this end, the researchers interviewed female college students who experienced a decline in academic rank at foreign language high schools, and went to a university that they did not aim for, focusing on changes in academic rank and self-discrepancy. Specific research questions are as follows. First, what was your experience with a decline in academic rank and self-consistency at the special purpose high school and in college entrance examination process? Second, how does this self-discrepancy affect in college life adaptation and study? This study was designed to understand their experiences by following the learning life history of eight female college students who graduated from foreign language high schools and enrolled at universities in the metropolitan area. The results showed that the study participants achieved a high academic rank with high grades and great recognition from peers and teachers at elementary and secondary school, and based on this, they entered a foreign high school. However, immediately after entering a foreign high school, they experienced a sharp decline in academic rank, resulting in a discrepancy between ideal and actual self-concept, which in turn negatively affected academic performance. As they entered a university that they did not aim for, the study participants once again experienced self-discrepancy, which negatively affected their early adaptation to the university life, but they were able to overcome in various ways. Lastly, these findings suggest implications for counseling and education for students experiencing self-discrepancy with rapid changes in academic rank.
