씨월드고속훼리 창업자 이혁영의 경영철학 관점에서 본 성공요인 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 우리나라 연안운송업의 발전 과정에서 나타난 대표적인 기업의 성공요인 및 경영자의 경영철학을 분석하였다. 연안운송 중에서도 여객운송업은 카페리 또는 차도선을 이용하여 도서지역을 오가는 여객과 여객화물의 수송을 담당하고 있는데 해운 경영의 특 성상 화물운송업보다 안전 및 책임경영이 더욱 중요시되고 있다. 그 중에서도 창업 이후 우리나라 연안운송업계의 대표적인 성공기업으로 나타난 씨월드고속훼리(주)의 성공요인 을 분석하고 그 바탕이 되는 경영철학을 경영사적인 방법으로 연구하였다. 전남 목포에 본사를 두고 한국 최대의 연안 여객운송업을 운영하고 있는 씨월드고속훼리(주)는 창업 초기부터 목포-제주 항로를 운항하면서 20년 이상 우리나라 연안 여객운송업계의 독보적 인 1위 업체로 전체 해상여객 운송의 약 10%를 차지하고 있다. 연구의 결과, 씨월드고속훼리(주)는 “승객의 안전이 우리의 안전이며 경영의 최우선 과 제”라는 고객제일주의를 표방하면서 불확실성이 큰 연안운송업 환경 하에서 차별화된 전 략과 지속적인 혁신으로 대형 크루즈카페리 시대의 새로운 지평을 열었다고 평가된다. 씨 월드고속훼리(주)의 성공요인은 안정적인 재무구조를 바탕으로 서번트 리더십을 발휘해 온 창업자 이혁영 회장의 경영철학에 큰 바탕을 두고 있음을 확인하였다.‘한국의 오나시 스’로 불리우는 이 회장의 주요 경영철학은 고객과 직원이 동행하는 신뢰경영, 안전을 최 우선으로 하는 안전제일주의 경영, 봉사와 사회적 책임중시 경영, 변화와 미래를 준비하 는 혁신경영 네 가지로 요약된다. 본 연구는 연안 여객운송업을 선도하고 있는 씨월드고 속훼리(주)의 성공요인과 경영철학을 분석하여 바람직한 해운 경영의 발전방향을 제시하 였다는데 연구의 공헌점이 크다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the representative company and CEO of the corresponding company that appeared in the development process of the coastal transportation industry in Korea. Among coastal transportation, the passenger transportation business is responsible for passengers by ferry, and due to the nature of shipping management, safety and responsible management are more important than the cargo transportation business. Among them, I would like to analyze the success cases of the Seaworld Express Ferry Co., Ltd, which is remarkable leading company of the coastal transport industry. The Seaworld Express Ferry Co., Ltd headquartered in Mokpo, Jeonnam province, it has been the No.1 passenger ship company in Korea for more than 20 years. As a result of the study, I found that the success factor of this company is based on the management philosophy of founder Hyuk-Young Lee, who has demonstrated servant leadership based on a stable financial structure. Chairman Lee’s main management philosophy is summarized into four categories: trust management accompanied by customers and employees, safety-first management, service and social responsibility-oriented management, and innovative management preparing for change and the future. This study analyzed the success factors and management philosophy of the Seaworld Express Ferry Co., Ltd., which leads the coastal passenger transportation industry, and suggested a desirable direction for the development of shipping management.
