한·미 대학신문 보도의 다양성 저널리즘 연구

국문 초록

대학신문은 캠퍼스의 공론장이다. 디지털 미디어의 발달과 매체의 다양화로 대학신문의 위상이 크게 낮아졌다. 하지만 여전히 캠퍼스의 공식 매체이다. 따라서 대학신문이 구현하는 저널리즘의 가치는 높다. 사회 갈등, 코로나 19 확산, 유학생 증가 등 다양성 사회로의 분화가 이뤄지면서 대학사회도 큰 변화를 겪고 있다. 그렇다면 대학신문은 다양성 사회에서 어떤 저널리즘을 구현하고 있을까? 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 연세대 <연세춘추>, 서던캘러포니아대 의 2020년 1년 치 기사를 분석했다. 그리고 한국과 미국 다양성 보도의 차이점과 특징을 확인했다. 분석 결과 두 대학신문 간 관점의 차이는 있었다. 하지만, 갈등과 차별을 극복하기 위한 다양성 저널리즘은 충실하게 가동되고 있었다. 또 다양성 저널리즘 기사는 스트레이트보다는 의견, 주장을 이야기 형식으로 담아내는 박스 기사, 칼럼 기사로 표현하는 것으로 나타났다. 다양성 기사가 속한 지면의 경우 한국이 사회, 여론 면에 집중됐지만, 미국 대학신문은 섹션 구성 비율을 비교적 동등하게 분포된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 △대학신문의 다양성 저널리즘 확대 △캠퍼스의 다문화 시민 의식 향상을 위한 대학신문의 다문화 저널리즘 구현 △갈등과 사회 이슈를 넘어선 인종, 민족, 국가 등을 포함한 광의의 다양성 저널리즘 구현 등을 제언한다.

영문 초록

A university newspaper is the public sphere of a university campus. Following the development and diversification of the media, especially with the rise of new support, the function of the university newspapers have lost some of their status. However, they remain the official medium of communication on university campuses. Therefore, the value of the content produced by university newspapers is high and cannot be denied. The rise of social conflicts, the spread of COVID-19, or the increase in international students create a social diversity, which in turn impacts the university society. As a result, discussing what kind of journalism university newspapers are currently practicing in such a diverse society is a very important topic. This study studies the differences and characteristics of diversity journalism between Korea and the United States through the analysis of articles published in Yonsei Chunchu of Yonsei University and Trojan of University of Southern California during the year of 2020. As a result of the analysis, a difference in viewpoints between the two university newspapers was identified. Despite this, diversity journalism is working well to overcome conflicts and discrimination. In addition, the study revealed that diversity journalism articles that contain opinions or arguments are expressed as box-type articles or column-type articles rather than straight pieces. In terms of the placement of diversity articles, they were concentrated on the social and public opinion section in Korea, while the section composition ratio was relatively equal in the case of America. Based on the results of the study, the researchers propose the following in conclusions: △Expansion of diversity journalism in university newspapers △Establishment of diversity journalism in university newspapers to improve the awareness of multicultural students on campus △Realization of diversity journalism in a broad sense including race, ethnicity, nationality, to overcome conflicts and social issues.
