치료사-내담자 관계에서 음악의 역할에 대한 사례 연구

국문 초록

치료사와 내담자의 관계에서 신뢰 형성과 이해는 효과적인 치료를 위한 기본적인 요소이다. 치료활동에 있어서 효과적인 동반자 관계는 치료 전 과정의 기초가 되기 때문이다, 이러한 점은 비단 음악치료 뿐만이 아니라 정신심리학적 치료나 상담치료 등에서도 같은 맥락을 가지고 중요시 하고 있다. 이러한 중요성 때문에 치료사와 내담자의 관계에 대한 연구는 상당히 폭넓게 이루어져 왔다. 여기에 최근의 연구는 치료사나 내담자 한 쪽의 일방적인 영향만을 고려하거나, 각자의 내적 변인들에 초점을 두어 연구하는 전통적인 견해를 탈피하여, 치료사와 내담자의 상호영향을 동시에 고려하는 연구가 이루어지고 있다 본 연구는 최근의 연구동향에 주목하여, 음악치료 환경에서 나타나는 치료사와 내담자의 관제에서, 음악이 어떠한 역할을 하였는지를 분석하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 위해 알코올 중독 판정을 받은 성인 여성을 대상으로 총 11회의 음악치료를 실시하였다. 처음 3회 세션은 연구 대상 여성을 포함한 그룹으로 진행되었으며, 4회부터 11회까지는 개인 세션으로 진행되었다. 이 중 개인 사례를 중심으로 연구를 진행하였고, 비디오 • 오디오 자료를 토대로 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 방법은 Amir(1990)가 음악 연구를 위해 사용한 Ferrara(l984) 의 현상학적 연구 7단계를 변용한 것을 참조하였으며, 활동 중 나타나는 내담자의 언어적 • 비언어적 행동에서 나타나는 음악적 요소를 중심으로 분석하였다. 연구 분석에 있어서, 세션에서 얻어진 비디오 오디오자료를 문서화하는 작업은 음악치료에서 qualitive research 연구를 위한 guide인 Henk Smeijsters, 의 저서 ”Multiple Perspective 에서 Researchers as Instruments 부분을 참조하였다. 즉홍연주 활동에서 나타난 내담자의 음악 분석은 Brnscia의 저서 ”lmprovisational Models of Music Therapy”에서 Bruscia 의 모델인 Improvisation Assessment Profil e과 Alvin모델인 Free Improvisation Therapy를 창조하였다. 연구 결과 음악과 악기는 치료사와 내담자의 관계를 중재하여 치료과정올 용이하게 해준다는 점을 보여 주었다. 음악과 악기가 감정전이의 주 역할을 맡음으로써, 치료사와 내담자 관계에 있어서 나타날 수 있는 부정적 감정전이로부터 치료사를 보호함과 동시에, 치료사-내담자 사이의 긍정적인 관계형성을 유지하게 해주었다. 이때 음악과 악기가 감정전이의 주 역할을 담당한다는 점은 내담자의 갈등이 대인 관계적 상황이 아닌 음악적 상황에서 나타났음을 증거 한다. 이는 세션 중 치료사와 내담자의 관계 형성에 있어서 음악이 그 중심이 되며, 치료에 긍정적 영향을 준다는 사실을 암시한다.

영문 초록

Trust and understanding relationship promoted between a therapist and a client is the basic building block to successful recovery. Its importance is not only pertaining to the music therapy but also to counseling and psychological therapy. Because of its gnificance, broad spectrum of research has been conducted for quite a long time. Historically, researches have been focused on therapists or client s chological variables rather than emotional effects on each other that occur during the therapy session. Recently researchers turned their attention to emotional relationship between a therapist and a client. With recent advances in the field of music and psychological therapy, subsequent study has been conducted to investigate the role that music plays in the therapeutic relationship. For this research, eleven music therapy sessions were conducted for the adult females who are alcoholics. The first three sessions were of group therapy. Fourth to eleventh therapy session was done individually. Throughout the research case-by-case study has been conducted on the basis of the analysis of video and audio taped materials. Analysis depends heavily on its reference from the Amir s music research of 1990, which used Ferrara s seven phases of phenomenological study. Especially, verbal and nonverbal communications were closely analyzed in musical perspective. Research revealed that music and musical instruments act as a mediator between a therapist and a client. By doing so, it protects a therapist from unnecessry negative emotional displacements of a client and creates mutual reliability between a therapist and a client. Here, research suggests that music and musical instrument play a central role in building relationship between a therapist and a client, and it indicates that it has positive effect on treatment.
