국문 초록

김경서는 평양 출신의 장군이다. 임진왜란에 출전하여 많은 공을 세웠으나, 말년에 강홍립과 함께 심하전투에 나가 명을 도와 싸우다가 후금에 패하여 항복하였다. 패장이라는 이유로 조정에서는 별다른 대우를 하지 않는 사이 평안도 지역에서는 그의 죽음이 적의 정세를 살피다가 발각되어 죽은 것이라는 이유를 들어 그의 신원을 청원한다. 그의 고향에서는 그에 관한 설화를 엮어서 ‘영웅 만들기’ 작업을 지속적으로 펴나갔다. 우선 그의 업적을 연보로 묶고 그에 관한 기록을 찾아내어 책으로 묶어 내니, 1738년 평양에서 간행된 『김장군유사』이다. 그것을 바탕으로 홍양호가 ｢부원수김경서장군전｣을 썼고, 개화기의 잡지인 『서북학회월보』에는 ｢김경서장군전｣이라 하여 방대한 분량의 전을 싣고 있다. 이 논문은 『김장군유사』내의 ｢관서충렬전｣과 홍양호의 ｢부원수김경서장군전｣, 『서북학회월보』의 ｢김경서장군전｣등 세 편의 김경서전을 비교 검토하고 패장인 그가 영웅화되어가는 과정을 추적하였다. 그러나 그를 영웅시하는 것은 평안도 지역을 중심으로 한 지역 여론일 뿐이고 여전히 중앙의 인물지 등에서는 관심을 가지지 않았다. 오늘날에도 북한에서는 그를 우표에도 싣고 그의 고향인 평안남도 용강군에 있는 그의 집을 국가 지정문화재 국보급으로 선정하여 그가 마시던 우물까지 기념하고 있는데, 남한에서는 별로 관심을 두지 않는 잊혀진 인물이 되어가고 있는 차이를 보이고 있다.

영문 초록

Kim Gyeong-seo was a general from Pyongyang. Although he fought in the Imjinwaeran bravely and distinguished himself many times, in his later years he was defeated by Hoogum(後金) and surrendered while fighting during the Simha Battle(深河戰鬪) for Myeong(明), having taken part in the battle with Kang Hong-rip(姜弘立). As the royal court did little to honor him as he was a defeated general, the region of Pyeongan-do(平安道) moved to request that his false shame in honor be removed as they thought that he died from being detected while spying on the enemy’s situation. At his hometown, stories of him were compiled and the work of “turning him into a hero” continued. In 1738, the 『General Kim Yusa』was published in Pyongyang when his contribution was bound as a chronology of his life and records of him were found and compiled into a book. From that Hong Yang-ho(洪良浩) wrote the ｢Buwonsu-KimGyeongseojanggun-Jeon｣, and the biography of a large amount of content on General Kim as ｢Kim Gyeongseojanggun-Jeon｣ was included in 『Seobukhakhoi-wolbo』, a magazine during the modernization period. Through the careful examination and comparing with the KimGyeongseo-jeon in three books such as the ｢Gwanseochungnyeol-Jeon｣ from 『General Kim Yusa』and Hong Yang-ho’s ｢Buwonsu-Kim Gyeongseojanggun-Jeon｣ and the ｢Kim Gyeongseojanggun-Jeon｣ from the 『Seobukhakhoi-wolbo』, this thesis tracked the process in which Kim Gyeongseo, who lost in battle, became a hero. However, he was only considered as a hero mostly within the public opinion of the Pyeongan-do and was not still considered as a central figure. Even today, we can see the difference in that in North Korea he is featured in stamps and his house at Yonggang-gun in Pyeongannam-do has been selected as a national cultural heritage and even the well he drank from is memorialized while in South Korea there is little interest in him as he is a forgotten figure.
