국문 초록

본고는 성리학자로 알려진 거유 간재 전우의 시인으로서의 면모와 시문을 정심의 한 방법으로 인식한 그의 시세계를 조명하여 보았다. 그의 시세계가 아직까지 드러나지 않았던 것은 문집에 수록된 시가 소략하여 관심의 밖에 있었던 점에서 기인하였다. 그러나 『艮齋集』에 수록된 詩외에도 그의 문인 유영선이 간재의 사후에 정리하였다는 『臼山先生風雅』가 발굴된다면 그의 전체적인 시의 면모을 확인할 수 있을 것으로 생각된다. 국난의 격변기에 살았던 간재 전우는 비록 처사였지만, 중망을 얻고 있는 거유로 막중한 시대의 짐을 짊어져야만 했다. 그러나 그는 自靖을 택하였다. 그는 聖學奧旨의 發現樣相의 시를 통하여 자연의 온갖 현상에서 자연의 이치를 활연히 깨닫는 정신세계에 도달하려 노력하는 모습을 보이고 있다. 우주와 자연을 파악하고 거기에서 그 우주를 관통하는 온전하고도 철저한 정신세계에 도달하고자 한다. 또한 모든 학문의 요체는 ‘敬’이라는 한 글자에 시종 투철하고 지행을 관통하는 큰 근본이라고 말하고 있다. 간재는 자아성찰과 군자지도의 시를 통하여 天道가 자연 현상 속에 구현되고 있음을 나누고자 하였으며, 세속에 얽매이지 않는 열린 마음으로 자연 경관을 바라보며 내적 자아를 닦고 있는 것이다. 그것은 세속의 번거로움과 이욕을 벗어난 경지에서 성현의 학문을 공부하는 도학자적인 생활의 표현인 것이다. 유학자로 전통적인 학맥을 이었다고 자부한 간재이었기에 그의 시도 비록 직접적으로 자신의 문학관을 표명한 바는 없지만 ‘文以載道’라는 전통적인 유가 문학관에 의한 실천을 꾸준히 하고 있음이 드러난다. 본 연구가 아직까지도 미진한 우리나라 근현대 한시사의 정리에 일조가 되기를 바란다.

영문 초록

This study focuses on Ganjae(pen name) Jeon-woo, who is a well-known Confucian during the late Jo-seon dynasty, in terms of his poems and his poetic world as a means to control one’s mind. His works have been out of public’s interest as only small numbers of his poems were included in his collection of works. However, his poetic aspects will be thoroughly revealed if a book, called ‘Gusan-seonsang-punga’ by his follower Yu, yeong-sun, is fully studied. Although he didn’t get any official titles from the government during the national crisis and upheaval of the time, he had to carry on a heavy responsibility as a highly respected elite of the time. He chose to stay away fromthe reality and led the life of a recluse. In his poetic works, he tried to understand the ultimate principles of the nature and its ways to reveal them through the eyes of Confucianism. He wanted to comprehend the principles of the nature and the universe as a whole and from there reach out the ultimate world of spirit. He stated that the key factor of all learning can be explained by the concept of “Gyeong(敬:respect, refrainment), which is believed to be the basis of knowledge and conduct in Confucianism. His poems mainly deal with introspection and gentleman’s’virtues. In his poems, he wanted to share his view that the way of heaven is realized through natural phenomenon; therefore, people need to see nature as it is with open mind and continue to perfect oneself. It is this way through which sincere scholars learn the teachings of the sages without greed and cumbersomeness. Although Gan-jae’s philosophy on literature had not been expressed in his works, considering that he was proud of carrying the Confucius legacy in his school, it can be acknowledged that he practiced Confucius teaching in his life based on ‘Mun-i-jae-do’, a traditional thought on literature that writing exits only for cultivating one’s morality. It is my humble opinion that this study on Gan-jae’s poems should be a stepping stone toward further study on contemporary Korean Chinese poems.
