영문 초록

Jeongjae(court dance) items in early Joseon dynasty were newly composed mostly following previous musical chapters. In this respect, the proper understanding of musical chapters can surely lead to the adequate understanding of Jeongjae in Joseon dynasty. By now, there used to be a tendency of comprehending the meaning of Jeongjae at king Taejo(Lee Seong-gye) s time as a flattery to justify the rightfulness of founding Joseon dynasty. In this context, this paper tried to analyze the conceptual nature of three jeongjae items, that is, , , composed at Taejo s time as a means of understaning the proper meaning of jeongjae in Joseon dynasty. A meritorious retainer Jeong Dojeon who contributed to the foundation of Jeoseon dynasty managed to compose new jeongjae items for the purpose of praising the great achievement of new royal dynasty. For example, was made to justify the heaven s providence that helped Taejo s foundation of the dynasty while praised many people s contribution for political revolution. Further, suggested that the king should listen to people to protect their safety and welfare, and rule the country through close cooperation with faithful retainers who contributed to founding dynasty, and establish proper courteous music/dance to govern the country effectively. Likewise, three jeongjae items of Taejo s time reflect the dignity and praise of founding new dynasty as well as the wish and advice for nation s prosperity. Especially, provides a righteous lesson necessary not only to Joseon dynasty but also to present Korea. Therefore, it will be desirable to develop jeongjae as a precious cultural heritage that is alive vividly in Korean people s present lives.
