This article identifies the planting tradition of plantains and the accommodation to the subjects of Chinese poetry. This study is meaningful in that it makes us to succeed to literature tradition by expanding our eye for beauty for flowers. Plantains refresh us by providing cool shades. Additionally, if we plant them near windows, they give special feelings by playing music with raindrops. Because of its aesthetic efficacy, planting plantains has been a noble hobby from late Goryo to late Chosun. Writers in Chosun express their emotion in Chinese poetry after observing characteristics of plantain leaves which bloom consecutively from the root. Rain drop sounds on plantain leaves stimulate poetic mind of writers. Feeling of refreshment of green plantains that help people to overcome hot weather of mid –summer is caught by eyes of poets. And plantains stimulate the impulse of writers to write poems. Plantains can be one of representative flowers which have deep relationship with Chinese poems. In most cases, the emotion that poets feel is based on literature tradition that poets in previous times have experienced. Accordingly, it is very important to differentiate emotions when appreciating Chinese poems expressing plantains such as those based on tradition and those from unique emotions of the poet.
