『東京日記』의 필사본 현황 재고

국문 초록

본고는 『동경일기』 필사본을 조사한 성과를 바탕으로 『동경일기』의 필사본 현황을 보고하고 그 계열을 정리하는 것을 목표로 한다. 『동경일기』필사본은 현재 서울대학교 가람문고․규장각․고려대학교․한국학중앙연구원 장서각․국립중앙도서관․국회도서관 등에 소장되어 있다. 선행연구는 개항기 조선 지식인들이 일본의 근대화에 대해 어떠한 관점과 태도를 취하였는지 분석하기 위해 『동경일기』를 언급하고 주로 규장각본을 인용하는 것은 그것이 1975년 처음 영인되고 2000년 허동현의 조사시찰단관계자료집에도 재차 영인되었기 때문이다. 그 외도 접근성이 비교적 좋은 장서각본과 가람문고본을 인용하기도 하였다. 이와 같이 선행연구들이 다수의 필사본을 고려하지 않았다는 사실에서 이끌어낼 수 있는 논의의 초점은 『동경일기』의 정고본 연구가 필요하다는 것이다. 조사 이원회와 그의 수행원이었던 송헌빈은 1881년 일본 방문 이후 출세가도를 걸었다. 그것은 그들이 일본 방문에서 얻은 경험과 지식들이 그들의 관운을 결정할 정도로 중요하였다는 사실이다. 그리고 『동경일기』는 송헌빈이 일본 방문 이후 출세가도를 걷는 계기가 된 경험과 지식들을 기록하고 있다. 송헌빈은 메이지 시기 일본 지식인들에게 화두였던 ‘화학’에 관심을 갖고 일기에 기록한다. 그것은 그가 이원회의 담당 시찰업무인 육군조련과 관련된 방문 외에 김용원과 함께한 일정에서 찾아 볼 수 있다. 그것은 곧 송헌빈이 화학이 지닌 시대적 위상을 짐작하였다는 것을 반영한다. 이러한 그의 통찰은 『동경일기』에서 기록하는 근대 문물과 제도를 부분 발췌만으로는 알 수 없다. 일기의 기록 전체상 속에서 발견할 수 있는 것이다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study is to report the status of manuscript of 『Tokyo Travel Diary』 and arrange the system on the basis of survey on the manuscript of 『Tokyo Travel Diary』. The manuscript of 『Tokyo Travel Diary』 is currently kept in Garammugo of Seoul National University, Gyujang-gak, Korea University, Jangseo-gak Archives of the Academy of Korean Studies, National Library of Korea, National Assembly Library and others. Previous researchers mainly quote 『Tokyo Travel Diary』 from the Gyujang-gak collection. It is attributable to the fact that the Gyujang-gak collection was photo-printed and published in the 1990s. Therefore, those earlier researchers did not consider that the fact of 『Tokyo Travel Diary』 remaining in a few manuscript as important. However, those 6 types of manuscript contained a significant number of type errors with substantial omissions and additons in the contents. Therefore, those manuscripts must be studied to make an original manuscript. The owners and recorders of this diary had a successful career after visiting Japan. And, 『Tokyo Travel Diary』 recorded their experiences and knowledge as their starting point of success. A recorder, Song Heon-bin, had the interests in ‘chemistry’ that was a topic for Japanese intellectuals during the Meiji period and recorded it on the diary. This fact would be affirmed from the fact of visit paid to the military field where Lee Won-hoe who was the superior to Song Heon-bin was in charge as well as the visiting schedule to chemical, glass, dye, and textile plants. This fact displays that Song Heon-bin was aware of the chemicals with its escalated status of the time. His insight could be discovered after clear and complete translation of 『Tokuyo Travel Diary』.
