국문 초록

우리는 어디서 중국의 근대성, 그리고 그것이 하나의 구성 요소로 자리 잡고 있는 동아시아의 근대성의 함의를 볼 수 있을까. 이 글은 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 중국 근대성의 기원과 형태를 탐구하려 한다. 그 과정은 두 단계로 나눌 수 있다. 첫째, 동아시아의 사유 체계 속 하나의 근간이 될 수 있는 중국적 사유 체계 안에 자리 잡은 개인과 공동체의 관념이 현대의 시대성과 직면하면서 변화하기 시작하는 초기 단계다. 둘째, 위와 같은 단계를 바탕으로 발전한 새로운 개인 주체성과 공동체 의식을 찾는 것이다. 이러한 두 단계를 통해서 우리가 발견할 수 있는 것은 바로 동아시아의 현대성과 그 사유 체계이다. 이들은 새로운 개인 주체성이 살아있는 수평적 사회질서, 그 위에서 건설하는 새로운 공동체의 조화를 추구하는 것이다. 서로 소통하고 공감하는 것이 동아시아의 근대성, 그리고 그 사유 체계가 갖는 의미이다. 여기서 본고가 살펴보고자 하는 두 단계 이후의 단계, 즉 제3의 단계를 가늠해볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

Where can we see the implications of China‘s modernity and East Asia’s modernity? This article attempts to explore the origin and form of modernity in China to solve this problem. The process can be divided into two stages. First, it is an early stage in which the ideas of individuals and communities in East Asia begin to change as they face the modern times. Second, it is to find a new sense of individual subjectivity and community that has developed based on the above steps. Through these two steps, what we can find is the modernity of East Asia and its thinking system. They pursue a horizontal social order in which new individual subjectivity is alive and a new community built on it. Communicating and empathizing with each other is the meaning of East Asia s modernity and its thinking system. Here, it is possible to estimate the steps after the two steps this paper intends to examine, that is, the third step. In light of East Asia s modernity and its reasons, the confrontation between the values and ideologies of vertical order is no longer dismantled and disappeared, and there is only horizontal harmony. This is why we should pay attention to the modernity and the thinking system of East Asia.
