동사 파생 접미사의 심리적 실재성

국문 초록

본고는 한국어 동사 파생 접미사들의 심리적 실재성 검증을 목적으로 한다. 논의의 초점은 우리말 동사 파생 접미사들의 어휘부 내적 위상이 대응 파생 동사의 그것과 동일한지를 확인하는 데 둔다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 채택한 방법은 어휘판단과제라는 심리학적 실험과 실험 결과에 대한 통계적 검정이다. 그러한 방법론에 근거한 본고의 거시적 검정 결과는 동사 파생 접미사와 파생 동사에 대한 반응시간 평균이 서로 다르지 않음을 보여 주는데, 이것은 우리말 동사 파생 접미사의 어휘부 내적 위상이 대응 파생 동사의 그것과 다르지 않다는 어휘부학적 함의를 가진다. 그런데 본고의 실험군 자극에는 대응 복합어의 유형 빈도가 낮은 접미사 “-이다1, -히다, -추다; -애다”가가 포함되어 있다는 사실이 주목된다. 본고는 이들 접미사가 대응 복합어의 상대적으로 낮은 유형빈도에도 불구하고, 어휘부 내적 위상은 대응 복합어의 그것과 다르지 않다는 실험 결과를 연구 대상 파생 동사들의 말뭉치 출현 빈도를 분석한 결과를 바탕으로 언어 사용 차원의 ‘빈도 효과’, 즉 높은 사용 빈도 때문인 것으로 해석하였다. 미시적 검정 결과에서는 접미사 ‘-당하다’는 ‘거절당하다’보다, 접미사 ‘-히다’는 ‘닫히다’보다 반응시간 평균이 긴 것으로, ‘거들먹거리다, 꿈틀거리다’와 ‘빨리하다’와 같은 파생 동사는 관련 파생 접미사 ‘-거리다, -하다’ 뿐 아니라 동일 부류에 속한 파생 동사들에 대한 반응시간보다 긴 것으로 드러났는데, 전자는 해당 부류에 대한 일원배치 분산분석에서 평균의 동질성이 확인된다는 결과를 바탕으로 특별한 어휘부학적 해석이 필요 없음을 주장하였으며, 후자에 대해서는 평균 동일성이 기각된다는 일원배치 분산분석 결과를 고려하여, 사용 빈도와 관련된 ‘빈도 효과’를 바탕으로 어휘부학적 차원의 설명을 시도하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to verify the psychological reality of the verb derivative suffixes in Korean. It is for checking the psychological status of verb derivative suffixes in mental lexicon, so the focus of the discussion is located in checking whether the verb derivative suffixes have the same psychological status as the corresponding derived verb in the lexicon. The method adopted to achieve this goal is a psychological experiment called lexical decision task and a statistical verification of the results of the experiment. The results of macro analysis based on such a methodology show that the reaction time averages for verb derivative suffixes and derived verbs do not differ from each other, which has the lexiconological implication that the status of Korean verb derivative suffixes is not different from that of corresponding derivative verbs in the lexicon. It is noted that the experimental group stimulus in this paper contains the suffix -ida1, -hida, -chuda, -aeda which have low type-frequency of the corresponding compound word. The experimental result that these suffixes did not differ from that of the corresponding derivatives in spite of the low type frequency of the corresponding compound word was interpreted as the result of the frequency effect in terms of language use based on the results of analyzing the frequency of appearance of the corpus . In the micro analysis, the test result showed that the suffix -danghada had a longer average reaction time than geojeoldanghada and the suffix -hida had a longer average reaction time than datchida . We also paid attention to the test result that derived verbs such as geodeulmeokgeorida, kkumteulgeorida and ppalihada had a longer average reaction time than related derivative suffix -georida, -hada as well as the derived verbs of the same class belonging to the control group. For the former, it was argued that no special lexiconological analysis was necessary based on the result that the homogeneity of the means was confirmed in the one-way ANOVA for the relevant class. For the latter, considering the result of one-way ANOVA that mean equality is rejected, an explanation of the lexiconological dimension was also attempted based on the frequency effect related to the frequency of use.
