암호자산의 변동성과 스테이블 코인

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 일반 자기회귀 조건부 이분산(GARCH) 모형들을 통해 주요 암호자산의 수익률 변동성을 측정하고, 암호자산의 유형에 따라 변동성이 상 이하게 나타난다는 점을 확인한다. 비트코인 이후 암호자산은 다양하게 변화하고 있는데, 그중 일부가 기존 자산에 가치를 의존한 스테이블 코인이다. 주요 암호자산에서는 수익률의 불 리한 충격에 비해 유리한 충격에 변동성이 증가하는 역의 비대칭적 변동성이 주로 관찰된다. 하지만 암호자산 시장의 중심적 역할을 하는 비트코인과 가 격이 고정된 스테이블 코인은 상이한 결과를 나타낸다. 특히 스테이블 코인 인 테더에서는 유리한 충격에 비해 불리한 충격에 변동성이 증가한다. 이를 암호자산 시장에서 스테이블 코인과 비트코인이 일종의 위험회피수단으로 기 능하고 있다고 해석한다. 또한 최근 암호자산 시장에 대한 정책적 접근에 있 어, 스테이블 코인에 대한 규제가 필요하다고 제안한다.

영문 초록

This paper measures the return volatility of major cryptoassets with generalized auto regressive conditional heteroskedasticity(GARCH) models, and confirms that the volatility varies depending on the type of cryptoasset. Since Bitcoin, cryptoassets have changed in various ways, some of which are stable coin that depend on the value of existing assets. In major cryptoassets, reverse asymmetric volatility is mainly observed in which positive shocks increase the volatility by more than negative shocks. However, Bitcoin, which plays a central role in the cryptoasset market, and stable coin with a fixed price show different results. Particularly, in Tether, which is a stable coin, negative shocks increase the volatility by more than positive shocks. It is interpreted that stablecoins and bitcoins function as a kind of hedging instrument in the cryptoasset market. In addition, it is suggested that regulation on the stable coin is required in the recent policy approach to the cryptoasset market.
