청소년 시민교육과 기독교교육의 융합 방안

국문 초록

본 연구는 첫째, 시민교육과 기독교교육이 지향하는 청소년 교육과 공통분모가 무엇인지를 분석하고, 둘째, 영국 사례 고찰을 통하여 시민교육과 기독교교육이 융합하여 발전할 수 있는 방안을 강구하기 위한 목적을 가지고 수행되었다. 기독교교육의 본래의 목적을 회복하기 위한 기독교교육과 시민교육의 융합이 필요한 이유를 제시하기 위해 영국의 종교교육 사례와 시민교육 사례 분석을 통하여 청소년 시민교육의 배경, 주요 목적과 요소, 영국 종교교육의 주요 목적과 요소를 고찰하였다. 이를 통하여 한국에서 시민교육과 기독교교육의 융합사례를 통한 시사점과 발전방안을 논의 하였다. 연구결과 기독교교육과 시민교육은 몇 가지 공통점을 가지고 있었다. 첫째 기독교교육과 시민교육 모두 청소년들에게 삶, 신앙, 자신, 권리, 인간에 대한 근본적인 성찰을 가능하다. 두 번째로 기독교교육과 종교교육 모두 민주주의가 지향하는 기본 이념인 존중과 평화, 자유, 평등을 지향하고자 하는 공통점이 있다. 세 번째의 시민교육과 종교교육의 공통점은 정체성과 소속감의 함양을 추구한다는 것이다. 종교교육 역시 종교를 통해 자신의 정체성을 찾고 소속감을 함양하게 할 수 있다. 네 번째로 시민교육과 종교교육의 공통점은 타인에 대한 존중과 배려를 가르치고 이를 실천할 수 있도록 돕는다는 것이다. 마지막으로 시민교육과 종교교육 모두는 청소년들의 사회에 대한 책임과 사회참여를 강조한다. 이상의 공통점을 가지고 이 연구는 기독교교육의 본래의 목적 회복, 공교육에서의 종교교육 강화를 위한 시도, 시민교육과 연계한 기독교교육 실시를 위한 학교, 지역사회와의 연대, 신학대학 내 강좌 및 교과목 개설을 통한 시민교육 전문가 양성을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The aims of this research are to find the commonalities between citizenship education and Christianity education and to pursue the way how to develop citizenship education and Christianity education in terms of harmony and co-operation. This research presents the reasons why citizenship and Christianity education should co-operate together; the aims, purpose and contents of citizenship and religious education in England. Research findings are first, both citizenship and Christianity education provide opportunities young people with reflection on their lives, beliefs, selves, rights and human-being. Second, both education promote the philosophy of democracy such as, respect, peace, freedom and equality. Third, both education challenge young people to find their identity and belongings to their society. Fourth, teaching how to respect others and to practice what they had learnt from the education are common for both education. Finally, citizenship education and Christianity education put an emphasis on social participation with responsibilities. As a conclusion, this research suggests churches and schools retrieving the original aims of Christianity education, strengthening of religious education in formal schooling, building partnership with schools and community, and training the experts on citizenship education.
