중증 장애인의 위기행동에 관한 전문가의 인식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 우리나라 장애인 재활 현장에 근무하는 전문직 종사자 71명을 대상으로 하여 중증 장애인의 위기행동에 관한 훈련욕구와 인식정도에 관해 설문조사한 결과를 분석하고 정리하였다. 훈련욕구와 관련하여 많은 수의 현장 재활전문가들이 위기행동의 초기대처 훈련과 위기행동의 본질에 관해 알기를 원했으며, 따라서 개별화된 연수교육이나 수퍼비젼을 받기 원한다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 궁극적으로 이런 교육은 대학의 특수교육이나 재활교육에서 공식적 교육과정으로 다루어져야 할 것이다. 위기행동 인식척도의 요인분석결과는 두 요인모형이 보다 적합할 것으로 나타났다. 척도항목들은 내용요인과 예방 및 중재 요인으로 뚜렷이 구분되었다. 훈련욕구에 반하여 위기행동과 관련된 현재의 상태를 묻는 인식에 따른 질문에서는 대체로 중간정도의 반응을 보여 스스로 자신감 있는 대처능력이나 충분한 정보를 가지고 있지 못하다는 점을 시사하였다. 재활 현장에서 만나게 되는 내담자들의 장애가 점차 중증화되어 갈수록 위기행동의 예방과 중재기법에 관한 전문가들의 훈련욕구는 더욱 증가될 것이며, 실천현장에서 위기행동의 극복과 해소전략을 습득하기 보다는 현장배출 이전에 교육되어야 한다고 느끼는 것으로 미루어 짐작할 수 있다. 나아가 종합적 노력을 통해 이와 관련된 법규의 정비도 이루어질 수 있을 것이며, 환경요인과 위기행동의 심리적 이해도 여전히 부족하지만 장차 위기행동에 앞선 중증 장애인들의 신체적 전조와 같은 생리학적 단서들도 동시에 구명되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The population of persons with severe disability, especially in the area of psychiatric and developmental disability, has been dramatically increasing. In Korea alone, more than one-hundred forty thousand people with psychiatric disability areestimated to have a difficulty in daily living. Moreover, the number of psychiatric hospital beds reached around 60 thousand in the year of 2000. Shown these statistical figures, special education teachers, trainers, and professionals in rehabilitation facilities and educational settings have been exposed to and suffered from biting, beating, and other types of sudden physical attacks endangering their personal and occupational safety and health. However, academic and systematic research efforts to modify crisis behaviors enacted against rehabilitation service users and care takers in Korea have never been initiated. Insurance systems securing compensation after injury on the job are also scarce at this point in time. Therefore, practical and academic attention toward these crisis behaviors and approaches for overcoming the risk at work is strongly needed in the field of vocational rehabilitation settings which is one of the fastest growing job opening areas. Crisis prevention and nonviolent crisis intervention principles and techniques are very important for human service providers as well as persons who have disruptive, assaultive, and/or out-of-control behaviors themselves. These behaviors include the incident and violence resulting in a significant verbal, nonverbal, and physical injury, and are considered to be initiated under the similar situations of self-injury behaviors among persons with severe behavioral and emotional problems. Crisis behaviors go through three stages typically: such as the anxiety level, defensive behaviors, and physical aggression. In a potentially violent situation, rehabilitation counseling professionals can be in danger of harm by these crisis behaviors. In general, high-level violent behavior, which is one of the most significant crisis behaviors, is known to have relationships with personal traits (risk factors) of individuals, but also with high-risk situations, namely provocation vulnerability. The implications of this study can be found in the high training needs of crisis behaviors and low recognition levels among vocational rehabilitation practitioners in Korea.
