국문 초록

최근 미국과 터키의 관계는 극도로 악화되고 있으며, 이 현상에 대한 충분한 연구가 이루어지고 있지 않다. 양국의 관계에 있어서 지정학적-전략적 중요성 때문에, 이 잠재적 종말의 결과는 열강의 관계뿐 아니라 역내 패권분쟁에 영향을 미친다. 그러므로 이 부조화에 있어서 인과관계를 결정하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 이 연구는 결정적 전환점 접근 방식을 이용하여 미국과 터키 관계의 악화를 설명하고, 2014년 8월에서부터 2015년 11월 사이의 사건이 경로 의존적인 전략적 불일치와 제 기능을 못하는 양자협력 관계를 만들어내는 것을 초래하며 결정적 전환점을 구성한다고 주장한다.

영문 초록

US-Turkish relations have been increasingly vitriolic as of late, and there is insufficient literature addressing causation. Due to the geostrategic significance of this relationship, the consequences of its potential demise have implications in regional hegemonic disputes as well as great power competition. Therefore, determining the causal mechanisms in the incongruity is crucial. This paper employs a critical juncture approach to explain deteriorating US-Turkish relationship and argues that the events between August of 2014 and November of 2015 constitute a critical juncture resulting in path dependent strategic divergence and a dysfunctional bi-lateral partnership.
