대학교육에서 학생들이 인식하는 성공 경험의 과정과 의미에 관한 탐색

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 학생들이 인식하는 성공적인 대학교육 활동 경험의 과정을 보다 자세히 살펴보고, 그 경험들이 주는 교육적 의미를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 지방 소재 4년제 A 사립 대학교 소속 학생 28명이 작성한 대학생활에서의 성공경험 수기 자료를 수집하여 질적 연구방법에 따라 문서 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 첫째, 학생들이 인식하는 성공경험의 과정에서는‘현실과 미래에 대한 불안감’,‘자기 목표 설정과 탐색’,‘교육활동 참여에의 도전’,‘공동체 구성원들과의 소통과 협력’이라는 일련의 네 가지 주제를 발견하였다. 연구 참여자들은 현실과 미래에 대한 불안감을 딛고 자기 목표를 설정하고 대학교육이 제공하는 다양한 경험에 도전하면서 사회 구성원으로서 성장해 가는 일련의 과정을 경험하고 있었다. 둘째, 학생들이 기술한 수기 자료에서는 성공경험의 의미에 관하여 성장과 자기효능감을 강조하고 있었으며,‘노력으로 성장하는 시간’,‘자기효능감의 발견’,‘새로운 목표를 향한 자신감’라는 세 가지 주제를 도출하였다. 이를 바탕으로 본 연구는 학생 중심의 관점에서 대학이 지원해야 할 교육 경험의 설계와 실천 과정에서 고려해야 할 점들을 제시하였고, 본 연구 대상에 포함되지 않은 대학 내 다양한 학생 집단들의 특성을 이해하고 이들에 대한 지원방향을 고민해야 할 필요가 있음을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine students’ experiences on success in university education activities which they decided to engage actively, and explore the educational implications of these experiences. To this end, this study did a case study targeting 28 students in a four-year private university located in a local area in Korea. As exploratory case research, this study collected students’ essays written by them and analyzed the subjects according to a qualitative research method. The results of this study are as follows. First, in the process of success experiences recognized by students, there are four themes- anxiety about reality and the future, setting and exploring self-goals, challenging participation in educational activities, and communication and cooperation with community member. Participants in this study were experiencing the processes of growing as members of society setting their life goals and challenging the various experiences provided by university education, while also overcoming anxiety about the reality and the future. Second, in the themes on the meaning of success experiences, the following three themes were founded- time to grow with effort, discovery of self-confidence and self-efficacy toward new goals and challenges. Based on this, the study suggested that universities should provide more student-centered educational experiences and that they need to understand the characteristics of various student groups within the university itself.
