국문 초록

2000년대 중반부터 본격적으로 북한에 유입된 남한 미디어는 북한 사회변화의 주요한 지표가 된다. 국내 언론 보도 및 탈북민들의 증언을 통해 폐쇄된 북한 사회에서도 남한 영상물을 시청한다는 사실이 확인되면서 이 분야에 관한 연구가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 문제는 북한 내 외부정보 확산 현상을 어떻게 해석하느냐의 여부다. 북한에서 외부정보를 접한 북한 주민의 의식과 사회현상 더 나아가 북한체제 변화에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가의 문제이다. 본 연구는 김정은 시대에 한국에 입국한 탈북민을 대상으로 설문조사를 통해 북한 내 외부정보 실태를 파악하고, 이들의 인식변화 과정을 분석한다. 의식변화 추이는 남한과 남한 사람, 북한 정권에 대한 인식, 민주주의와 인권 등의 세부항목별로 조사가 이루어졌다. 북한에서의 남한 미디어 이용실태를 바탕으로 향후 남북한 통일과정에서 북한주민의 ‘마음 얻기’를 위한 미디어 활용방안을 모색한다.

영문 초록

South Korean media have flowed into North Korea in earnest since the mid-2000s and have become one of the major indicators of social change in North Korea. As the fact that South Korean videos are watched even in the closed society of North Korea was made public through media reports and the testimony of North Korean defectors, relevant studies are being conducted more actively. The question is how to interpret the spread of outside information in North Korea. It is a question about the perception of North Koreans who have accessed outside information in North Korea and social phenomena as well as how it affects the change of the North Korean system. In this regard, this study performed a survey with North Korean defectors who escaped Pyongyang during the Kim Jung-un era in order to investigate the actual status of access to outside information in North Korea and changes in their perception. Changes in the perception of North Korean defectors were explored in different categories, such as South Korea and South Koreans, perception of the North Korean regime, and democracy and human rights. This study aims to use the results as a mechanism to promote the dissemination of South Korean culture and perspective changes in North Koreans in the future. Based on the current state of use of South Korean media in North Korea, this study also explores ways to utilize media to “win over North Koreans for the future reunification of the two Koreas.
