영문 초록

The purpose of this study to identify factors affecting feelings of psychological well-being elders to work out a strategy to improve feelings of psychological well-being elders In light of this, the present researcher conducted interviews with 257 seniors at 60 years of age and more staying in homes and using complex social welfare centers and/or old people s recreational halls located in Suwon-City and tried to research whether or not subjects general characteristics and self-esteem, and social support for them affect their feelings of psychological well-being. As a result, it was revealed that, seniors living with (grand)son(s) and/or (grand)daughter(s) rather than ones living alone and/or with their spouses, and seniors showing higher levels of perceived health status and also doing more leisure activities, exhibited higher levels of feelings of psychological well-being, and further the independent variables of self-esteem and social support influenced the seniors feelings of psychological well-being. These results indicate that there is necessity for strategies to develop services related to self-esteem as a personal psychological factor and social support for them as a social factor, which can help enhance senior citizens feelings of happiness and satisfaction with life for the well-aged life.
