국문 초록

성공적인 스포츠이벤트는 개최지역의 위상을 높일 뿐만 아니라, 지역 인프라 개선, 지역소득 및 고용창출 등 다양한 지역경제효과를 유발한다. 그리고 지방정부는 스포츠이벤트를 통하여 스포츠 연관산업의 새로운 수요를 창출할 수 있으므로, 이를 지역경제 발전의 유효한 수단으로 활용하고자 한다. 그런데 우리나라의 경우 스포츠이벤트의 지역경제효과를 정량적으로 파악하는 분석방법의 체계적 검토나 그 타당성에 관한 연구가 거의 이루어지지 않았다. 따라서 경제성에 관한 객관적인 검토없이 막연하게 경제효과를 기대하며 스포츠이벤트를 개최할 경우, 개최 후 지역경제에 상당한 부담으로 작용할 수 있게 된다. 본 연구는 이러한 점을 고려하여 스포츠이벤트의 지역경제효과를 다루고 있는 기존 연구에서 나타나는 문제점들을 분석하고, 객관적이고 검증 가능한 분석방법을 제안하고자 하였다. 실증분석 결과, 지역 스포츠이벤트의 경제효과를 분석한 선행연구의 다수가 정량적인 지역경제효과 추정에서 이론적⋅실증적 근거가 취약함을 보여주었다. 또한 향후 지역 스포츠이벤트 개최에 따른 경제파급효과를 보다 객관적이고 정확하게 추정하기 위해서는 분석방법에 대한 체계적 검토, 분석결과의 타당성 검증, 사례연구 등이 수반되어야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

Successful sports events not only raise the status of the host region, but also induce various regional economic effects such as improving local infrastructure, creating regional income and employment. Since local government can create new demands for sports-related industries through sports events, we intend to use them as an effective means of regional economic development. However, there has been little research on the validity or systematic review of the analysis method to quantitatively analyze the regional economic effects of sports events. Therefore, if a sports events is held in anticipation of a vague economic effect without an objective and sufficient review of economic feasibility, it can act as a considerable burden on the regional economy after the events. The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems encountered in the existing studies dealing with the regional economic effects of sports events, and to propose an objective and verifiable analysis method. As a result of empirical analysis, the previous studies on the sports events showed that the theoretical and empirical basis for quantitative regional economic effect estimation was weak. It also implies that in order to more objectively and accurately estimate the economic effect of regional sports events, precise review of analytical methods, validation of analysis results, and case studies should be followed.
