영문 초록

Currently, the population of Jeju is on the rise. The number of visitors is also on the rise. Such increase in population and number of visitors is driving Jeju society, which has become evident since 2012. Real estate boom has been spreading all the areas of Jeju. The roads are changing day by day, and new buildings are coming to wherever there is a land. People s lifestyles are changing, and everything is changing. Together, complaints and conflicts are also rising. It is questionable how Jeju s locality can be defined after the next 10 years. The area of Jeju Island is 1,845.88㎢ and the coastline length is 253 km. By 2015, the population is 624,494. Jeju is the most densely populated area in Korea, with the exception of Seoul, Sejong and six metropolitan cities in 2017. Social changes caused by population movements and visitor increase are causing the gridlock of Jeju Island, and they are latent threats in many parts of Jeju society. The current conflicts in the Jeju community are diverse, in terms of subject and types. The central government, local governments, domestic and foreign corporations, local residents, and immigrants are becoming entangled with each other, and the content of the conflict is diverse and multi-layered. Some conflicts are becoming structured. If the overall management of the Jeju society s conflicts is not achieved, the crisis will continue to appear repeatedly, and the social cost will go up. This study provides the basis of approach such issues. Although there have been studies on the conflict between central government led development and inhabitant citizens movement since the 1980s, research on conflicts caused by population movement, social change, and gridlock has not been done to date. This is an important issue. A new type of architecture and residential culture is spreading on Jeju Island, a new level of service industry is spreading, and a new dimension of lifestyle is spreading. Things that have been described as characteristics of Jeju have changed. In addition, gridlock in the sudden change induces social conflicts and increase social costs. This study was conducted to investigate how demographic change, gridlock, and social conflict appeared. Through the case of Udo, some of the conflicts caused by the gridlock of Jeju Island will be examined.
