조선시대 제주도 지도의 현황과 유형별 특성

국문 초록

제주도에 대한 조선의 관심은 지도로 표출되었다. 조선전기부터 제주도만을 단독으로 그린 지도들이 조정에서 제작되어 활용된 사실들은 여러 사료에서 확인된다. 현존하는 조선시대 제주도 지도들은 16세기 이후의 지도들이다. 대부분 필사본 지도이지만 목판본 지도도 여러 종 남아 있다. 현존하는 조선시대 제주도의 지도들을 지도의 크기와 축척, 양식, 표현 기법 등을 토대로 유형을 분류하면 대축척 단독지도, 군현지도책의 지도, 전국지도첩(책)의 지도, 지리지의 지도, 회화식 지도, 기타 지도 등으로 구분해 볼 수 있다. 대축척 단독지도는 최신의 정보를 반영한 가장 정교한 지도로 관청에서 행정이나 군사적 목적으로 제작되었다. 군현지도책의 지도는 이전 시기의 사본을 바탕으로 제작되는 경우가 많은데, 중앙 관부에서 제작되는 경우가 많다. 전국지도책에 수록된 제주도 지도는 대축척의 전국지도책에 수록된 지도이다. 지리지에 수록된 지도는 지리지의 부도로 제작된 것이고, 회화식 제주 지도는 실경화의 형태를 지니지만 지명이 수록되어 지도의 성격을 지니고 있다.

영문 초록

The fact that the Jeju Island maps drawn by Joseon government alone from the early Joseon Dynasty were produced and used in the administration is confirmed in various sources. The existing maps of Jeju Island in the Joseon Dynasty are maps from the 16th century onwards, and are scattered around the museum libraries nationwide, and more than 60 kinds of them are reported. Most of them are manuscript maps, but there are many kinds of wood-block printed maps. The existing maps of Jeju Island in the Joseon Dynasty can be classified into the large scale maps of the government, the maps prefectures, the maps of the national atlas, the maps of the gazetteer, the map of painting style, and other maps by classifying the types based on the producer, the size of map, the style and expression technique. The large scale map of the public service is the most sophisticated maps reflecting the latest information, and it was produced for administrative or military purposes. The maps of prefecture atlases are relatively small, and paintings such as the Tamnasibgyeongdo have been produced and continued to the future generations.
