제주도 광령리 암각화에 대한 일고찰

국문 초록

광령리 암각화는 제주도 초기철기시대무덤으로 인식되는 고인돌 집중분포 지역이자 외도동유적의 유물산포범위 내에 자리한 거석(巨石)에 새겨져 있다. 더불어 암각화의 제작수법과 새김형태는 주변 고인돌에 새겨진 성혈의 새김수법과 유사성을 띠고 있다. 이러한 점은 암각화와 고인돌이 깊은 관련성이 있음을 가늠하게 하며, 광령리 암각화가 새겨진 거석은 주변 고인돌군과 더불어 당시 제주 선주민의 정신세계, 특히 신앙적인 일면을 엿볼 수 있게 해주고 있다. 이 글은 이러한 암각화를 제작한 집단과 제작시기, 제작의도를 파악하고자 암각화의 새김수법과 암각화가 자리한 주변 유적, 유물 등의 고고학적 성과를 바탕으로 살펴보려 하였다. 그 결과 광령리 암각화는 제주도 철기시대 전반(A.D. 200년 전후) 외도동유적을 축조한 탐라인들이 철기와 석기를 이용하여 집단의 안녕과 건강, 다산, 풍요로운 삶을 기원했던 주술적 대상으로 보았다.

영문 초록

Gwangnyeong-ri Petroglyph is engraved on the megalith located in the intensively distributed region of the dolmens recognized as tombs from the Jeju early Iron Age, which are within the Oedo-dong site. What s more, the engraving methods and patterns of the petroglyph are similar to those of cup marks engraved on its nearby dolmens. These characteristics show that there is a strong link between the petroglyph and the dolmens; the megalith engraved with Gwangnyeong-ri Petroglyph, along with its surrounding dolmen groups gives us a glimpse of Jeju s prehistoric people life, especially religious rituals. This research is to examine archaeological findings about the engraving methods and patterns of the petroglyph and its surrounding remains and relics in order to understand the group of prehistoric people who engraved the petroglyph, its engraving time period, and the purpose of the petroglyph. As a result, Gwangnyeong-ri Petroglyph is viewed to be a shamanistic object to Jeju s prehistoric people who built the Oedo-dong site in the early Iron Age (around A.D. 200) and wished for wellbeing, health, fecundity, and prosperity for the group.
