이상의 ‘거울’, 환상의 기표에 비친 주체 인식

국문 초록

‘거울’은 자기 반영의 도구이자 자기 소외의 속박이다. 인간주체는 끊임없이 거울을 통해 확인하는 이미지로 자아를 재구성한다. 하지만 거울로 확인하는 자아는 나르시시즘 단계에서 형성되는, 근본적으로 본질에서 소외된 환상이다. 이런 소외와 분열의 양상을 가장 전형적으로 거울에 담은 시인이 이상이다. 이상이 표현한, 주체 반영 속에서 확인하는 인간의 소외와 절망은 이상에 대한 기존의 인식과 다른 방향에서 해석될 수 있다. 인간이 언어적 존재이며, 본질에서 소외될 수밖에 없다는 라캉의 이론은 인간이 거울 앞에 서는 욕망과 절망의 본질을 설명해준다. 거울 앞에 서는 욕망을 실패함으로써 주체는 자기 본질에서 소외되고, 그 소외에서 분리로 나아갈 때 주체화를 이룬다. 이상은 거울이라는 기표로 주체가 어떻게 소외되어 분리로 나아가야 하는지를 표현하고 있다. 말하는 주체로서 이상은 거울 앞에 서서 포착하는 자아상이 환상과 망상임을 인식한다. 이상의 시 쓰기는 곧 그 발견의 과정이다. 라캉이 말하는 거울단계는 인간이 최초로 통합된 자기를 발견하는 인생초기 발달단계이지만, 그 때 만나는 자아상은 상상계 속에서 만나는 허상이다. 이 허상에서 소외되고 분리될 때, 인간주체는 무의식의 주체로서 탄생하고, 윤리적 주체로 나아갈 수 있다. 이상이 짧은 생을 마감할 때까지 욕망과 절망을 오가면서 쓰기를 멈추지 못한 것은 이상이라는 인간주체가 곧 윤리적 주체로 거듭나는 과정이었다고 해석하는 것이 본 연구의 목적이다.

영문 초록

The ‘mirror’ is a tool for self-reflection and a bondage to self-alienation. The human subject constantly reconstructs the ego with images that are checked through a mirror. However, the ego identified with a mirror is an illusion that is fundamentally alienated from the essence, formed in the narcissistic stage. Lee Sang is the most typical poet who portrays this aspect of alienation and separation in a mirror. However, if we change our perspective a little, the alienation and despair of human expressed by Lee, can be interpreted in a different direction from the existing perception of Lee. Lacan’s theory that humans are verbal beings and must be alienated from their essence explains the nature of desire and despair that humans stand in front of a mirror. By failing the desire of humans to stand in front of the mirror, the subject is alienated from his essence, and when the alienation proceeds to separation, the subjectification takes place. Lee expresses how the subject is alienated and must proceed to separation with the signifier of the mirror. As the parlêtre(speaking subject), Lee recognizes that the ego-image captured by standing in front of a mirror is an delusion and phantasy. Poetry writing of Lee is a process of this discovery. Mirror Stage Lacan refers to is the early stage of life when humans discover their first unified self, but the ego-image encountered at that time is an phantasy that they encounter in the imaginary. When alienated and separated from this illusion, the human subject is born as the subject of the unconscious and can proceed as an ethic subject. The purpose of this study is to interpret that Lee’s failure to stop writing as he goes back and forth between desire and despair until end of his short life was the process of rebirth of a subject named Lee as an ethic subject.
