여성 소설의 주제 형상화 방식 연구

국문 초록

이 연구의 목적은 환상문학과 리얼리즘문학의 형식을 띤 여성 소설의 분석을 통해 소설의 주제 형상화 방식을 살피고, 이를 바탕으로 여성 소설의 시대적 흐름을 살피는 것이다. 여성 소설에서 다루는 주제의 공통점은 여성주의시각을 통해 여성의 삶을 면밀히 다루고 있다는 점이다. 하지만 각 작품마다 여성의 삶을 형상화 하는 데 있어 차이를 보이며, 이러한 차이는 주제를 형상화하는 방식에 영향을 미친다. 여성 소설 중에 환상성을 통해 주제를 표현한 소설과 리얼리티를 통해 주제를 표현한 소설을 살펴보았을 때, 작품의 주요 서사가 여성에 대한 폭력과 깊은 연관성을 가지지만 폭력에 대한 고발과 대응방식에 있어서는 차이를 보인다. 한강의 『채식주의자』는 폭력에 대응하는 주인공 영혜의 심리와 주변 상황을 그리고 있는데, 폭력에 대응하는 방식이 환상을 추구하는 주인공의 내면 심리를 통해 묘사되고 있다. 조남주의 『82년생 김지영』은 리얼리즘 경향의 소설로 우리사회의 여성들이 겪고 있는 다양한 폭력들을 직접적으로 표현하고 있으며, 가부장제 남성 중심 사회의 여성에 대한 폭력을 증언을 통해 고발하고 있다. 김혜진의 『딸에 대하여』는 사회의 억압과 부조리함으로 인한 피해자를 여성에 한정짓지 않으며, 우리사회의 억압과 차별의 대상을 권력의 하위계층으로 설정하고 있어 앞의 두 작품과는 차별성을 갖는다. 종합하면, 환상을 주요 모티프로 한 소설에서는 주제를 드러내는 방식이 내면의 심리변화에 중점을 두고 있으며 폭력 대응 방식에서는 직접적 대응과 증언보다는 폭력 피해자의 심리적 고통과 사회와의 단절을 통해 간접 증언하고 있다. 이와는 달리 리얼리티를 추구하는 작품에서는 주제를 드러내는 방식이나 폭력에 대한 대응이 보다 구체적이며 상대방을 향해서 보다 적극적으로 이루어진다. 이는 리얼리즘 소설을 발표한 시기가 가부장제 사회에서의 여성 폭력에 대한 사회적 합의가 이루어진 상태이며, 그러함에도 불구하고 여성에 대한 폭력이 여전히 발생하고 있어 보다 더 적극적인 고발과 대응이 필요하다는 것을 여성 문학에서 인식하였기 때문으로 보인다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the embodiment of the theme through the analysis of feminine novels in the form of fantasy literature and realism literature, and to examine the trend of feminine novels based on this. The common theme of feminine novels is that they deal with women s lives closely through the idea of feminism. However, each novel shows a difference in shaping a woman s life, and these differences affect shaping of the theme. Among feminine novels, when we look at novels that expresses themes through fantasy and through reality, the main narrative of novel has a deep connection with violence against women, but there is a difference in the accusation of violence and method of respond. Han Gang s 『Vegetarian』 depicts the psychology and surrounding situations of the main character Young-hye, who is victim of the violence. Her reaction tells through her psychology which is pursuing fantasy. Cho Nam-ju s 『Kim Ji-young Born in 1982』 is a realism novel that directly expresses the various violence suffered by women in our society and shows violence against women in a patriarchal male-centered society through testimony. Kim Hye-jin s 『About My Daughter』 does not limit the victims of social oppression and irrationality only to women, but sets the subject of oppression and discrimination in our society as a lower class of power, which makes difference from the previous two novels. Thus, fantasy novels reveals theme by focusing on inner psychological change. In addition, reaction to the violence indirectly testifies through psychological pain and social disconnection of victims of violence rather than direct response and testimony. On the other hand, in realism novels, the main theme and reaction to violence is more specific and active toward the other side. There was a social consensus of violence against women when realism novel was published. But violence against women was still happening after the consensus. Therefore, more active accusation and reaction was needed in feminine literature.
