A Study on the Selection of Korean Cultural Vocabulary for Foreign Learners

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 선행연구에서의 한국어 문화어휘 선정 결과를 기초자료로구성하고 한국어 교육용 문화어휘 기초 목록을 새롭게 추출하고자 하였다. 문화교육에서 문화어휘 선정을 통한 접근방식은 가장 기본적이고 유용한 방식이다. 다시 말해 문화 기초어휘를 우선적으로 가르치고 나아가 문장을 구성하고, 함의하는 표현을 익히는 것은 문화교육에서 효율적이다. 따라서 한국어교육에서 한국문화 및 문화어휘에 대한 교육은 외국인 학습자들의 원만한 의사소통을 도울 수 있다. 본고는 메타 분석과 말뭉치 분석 방법을 활용하여 어휘목록을 추출하였다. 선행연구의 어휘 목록을 취합한 후 교재 간 중복도 및 참조 말뭉치(세종말뭉치)에서의 출현빈도와 비교하여 최종 241개의 어휘를 선정하였다. 아울러본 연구는 획일적인 분석 방법이 아닌 다중 검증 절차와 추출 작업을 통해타당성과 적용 가능성을 확보하고자 하였다. 문화교육에서 ‘어떤 것을 반드시 가르쳐야 하는가’에 대한 문제는 강제성이있는 것은 아니기 때문에 학자에 따라, 또는 교육 환경에 따라 어휘목록이상이할 수도 있으나 본 연구에서는 문화 기초어휘 목록의 윤곽을 제시하는것을 목표로 하고 있으며, 또한 이러한 목록은 한국어교육에서 활용이 가능하다. 한편으로 문화어휘 선정 과정에서 객관성이 결여되는 문제가 존재한다. 교재 중복도를 분석한 후 선정 목록에 대해 교사나 전문가 집단을 동원하여 검증을 하지 못한 부분이 아쉬움으로 남는다.

영문 초록

In this study, we have constructed a basic data through previous studies on Korean culture vocabulary and newly extracted a basic list of cultural vocabulary for Korean language education. In cultural education, initiating education of cultural vocabulary prior to other methods is the most basic and useful method in cultural vocabulary education. In other words, it is effective in cultural education to first teach the basic vocabulary followed by sentence construction and implying expressions. Therefore, teaching Korean culture and culture vocabulary in Korean language education can help amicable communication by the foreign learners. This study utilized the meta and corpus analysis methods to extract the vocabulary list. The vocabulary lists were obtained from the previous studies, examined and compared for redundancy between the texts and appearance frequency within the reference corpus to acquire the final 241 words. Therefore, this study was able to assess the feasibility and applicability through multiple assessment and extraction steps. Since the matter of what must be taught in culture education is not compulsory, the vocabulary list can be different according to the scholars or educational environment. However, this study aims to provide a reference or outline for a basic culture vocabulary list. Therefore, limited objectivity in the selection process of the cultural vocabulary exists. It is regrettable that the selected list was not verified by a group of scholars or experts after analyzing for the text redundancy.
