만주국 여성작가 양쉬(楊絮)의 삶과 문학에 대한 小論

국문 초록

일본의 식민지이자 괴뢰국이었던 만주국의 문학은 각 민족의 다양한 문학적 상상(想像)과 신세대 작가들의 등장을 바탕으로 형성, 발전하였다. 이 과정에서 만주국 문단에 등장한 여성작가들은 만주국 문학의 내용을 더욱 풍부하게 만들었으며, 작품 속에서 자신들이 직접 경험하고 관찰한 만주국 사회의 모습과 민중들의 삶을 반영하였다. 이 시기 만주국 문화·예술계에 등장한 양쉬(楊絮)는 가수와 배우, 기자, 작가, 편집자 등 다양한 직업을 경험했던 인물로 만주국 문화계와 문단에 있어서도 상당히 중요한 의의를 지니고 있다. 특별히 양쉬의 문학은 자신의 경험에 대한 솔직하고 사실적인 묘사를 통해 작가의 개성과 주관을 뚜렷하게 드러내고 있으며 만주국의 스타와 평범한 여성의 삶 속에서 끊임없이 교차하고 고뇌하는 개인적 사색의 내용을 담고 있다. 이러한 의의에도 불구하고 양쉬를 비롯한 만주국 여성작가에 대한 논의는 만주국 문학을 친일문학으로 바라보는 사회적 편견과 그 속에 드러나는 식민지의 그림자로 인해 해방 이후 오랜 시간 동안 심도 있는 논의가 진행되지 못하였다. 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 본고에서는 식민지 공간과 문화라는 독특한 배경 하에 성장한 만주국의 여성 작가 양쉬의 삶과 문학을 되돌아보고 그녀의 문학 창작이 지니는 특징에 대한 분석을 시도한다. 나아가 이러한 내용을 토대로 당시 만주국 사회에 등장한 신여성들과 이들이 만주국에서 지니는 사회적 의미 및 중층적 상징성에 대해 고찰한다.

영문 초록

The literature of Manchukuo formed and developed due to the diverse literary imaginations of each nation and due to the emergence of a new generation of writers. During this process, women writers who appeared in the Manchukuo literary circles enriched further the contents of the literature in Manchukuo, reflecting in their works Manchukuo’s society and women’s lives. Yang Xu, who appeared in the cultural and artistic circles of Manchukuo during this period, worked as a singer, actor, journalist, writer and editor. Yang Xu’s literature reflects the reality of the Manchurian society and of most women. Her works contain authentic and realistic descriptions of her own experiences, personal thoughts and agonies of a life of a star and an ordinary woman living in Manchukuo. Despite this significance, the discussion of women writers of Manchukuo, including Yang Xu, has not been extensively studied due to colonial tyranny and social prejudice in the Manchurian literature. Based on the perception of this problem, this paper looks back on the life and literature of Yang Xu, a female celebrity and writer of Manchukuo, who grew up under a unique background of colonial space and culture, and attempts to analyze the characteristics of her literature. Furthermore, based on these contents, it examines the social meaning and symbolism of a new type of women who have appeared in Manchurian society during this period.
