재가돌봄 노인의 일기를 통해 본 ‘돌봄받음’의 경험과 인식

국문 초록

본 논문의 목적은 후기 노인의 입장에서 본 돌봄, 즉 노인 스스로 자신의 돌봄받음의 상황 과 처지를 어떻게 경험하고 해석하는 지를 분석하고자 하는 것으로, 돌봄 제공을 중심으로 하 던 기존 돌봄 연구의 한계를 넘어서고자 하였다. 분석대상은 재가 돌봄을 받는 노인이 작성한 2019년의 일기로, 일기의 저자는 글쓰기를 즐겨하던 89세의 여성노인이다. 현재 아들 및 남 편과 함께 살고 있으며, 노인장기요양인정 4등급을 지원받는다. 분석결과 노인의 일기 서사의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘육체적 고통’의 서사가 빈도나 강 도 면에서 중심적이었다. 둘째, 부담을 주는 자녀에 대한 ‘미안함’의 서사가 두드러진다. 셋째, ‘신’을 의지하는 종교적 서사로, 여기에는 고통의 완화는 물론, 죽음에 대한 소망까지가 포함 된다. 이러한 서사가 갖는 의미의 맥락에 대해서는 각기 아래와 같이 분석하였다. 첫째, 육체 적 고통의 서사는 후기 노인이 당면하는 절박한 존재적인 문제로, 고통의 다양성에 대한 인정 의 필요를 논의하였다. 둘째, ‘미안함’의 서사는 육체적 취약성이 가져오는 ‘의존’으로부터 비 롯된 것이나, 그에 대한 과도한 자의식은 체면중시적인 생애사적 배경이 낳은 ‘의존’에 대한 부정적 인식과 연결되는 것으로 분석하였다. 셋째, 종교에 대해서는 한국 사회에서 종교가 ‘돌 봄자’로서의 역할을 수행하고 있음을 지적하였다. 넷째, 노인의 현재의 상황을 가족주의와 포 스트 가족주의의 경계에 처한 자의 딜레마로 분석하였다.

영문 초록

This is an analysis of a diary by an 89 year-old woman who receives care at home by her own child and the formal care worker. While the term of care is often identified with the care-giving activity, care is completed only with taking up of care on the part of a care-receiver. But the experiences and the perspectives of care-receiving olds have been rarely studied in the field of the elderly care. The diarist in this study is the author’s own mother, living together with an only son and husband in the family of the middle class, and has often been visited by two daughters living apart. Moreover she is a person with high educational background among her contemporaries and has been used to reading and writing in her lifetime. which makes the diary writing her habit. The results are as follows. Firstly, the narrative of the physical pain of various kinds is very characteristic in the diary. While she appealed to her dutiful children about her pain, the good care was too much to the working children. Resultantly and secondly, the narrative of feeling sorry for being burdensome to the children was noticeable in the diary, and it was also deeply related with the negative attitude toward “dependence” for herself. Thirdly, as a lifelong Catholic the narrative of the faith is an another axis in the care-receiving diary. She almost always prayed for lessening the suffering by God’s grace, and meeting her death by God’s call. Therefore the religion can be called as a kind of a care-giver, which is not unusual in the lives of the elderly women in Korea. Lastly, she seems to sit in a dilemmatic situation in between the familism and post-familism in Korea under the rapid change of care norm based on the traditional familism.
