위안화 국제화의 가능성에 관한 실증 분석

국문 초록

본 논문은 중국 위안화의 국제화 가능성을 검토하기 위해 다각도에서 정량적 분석을 시도하였다. 분석방법은 비선형 확률모형인 순위로짓(ordered logit)모형을 이용하였으며 중국 위안화의 국제화 가능성을 시산한 결과, 중국 위안화의 부분 국제화 확률은 비교적 높지만 완전 국제화 확률은 매우 낮은 것으로 분석되었다. 그러나 국제통화시스템의 변화 시뮬레이션 분석 결과는 향후 자본시장의 발전 및 개방 정도에 따라 멀지 않은 미래에 위안화가 달러화나 유로화의 지위까지도 올라갈 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 앞으로 중국정부가 금융 및 자본시장 개방을 촉진할 경우 중국 위안화 국제화가 예상보다 더욱 빠르게 진전될 수 있음을 시사하는 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper empirically examines the possibility of internationalization of the Chinese yuan by attempting quantitative analysis from various approaches. The paper uses the ordered logit model, non-linear probability model. The empirical result shows relatively high probability of partial internationalization of the Chinese yuan. In contrast, the result shows that the probability of full internationalization of the Chinese yuan is very low. However, with the simulation analysis of change in the international financial system, the paper finds that the Chinese yuan could be internationalized to the level of the US dollar or euro currency in the near future by developing and opening the capital market in China. The result of this simulation implies that internationalization of the Chinese yuan could be accelerated faster than expected if the Chinese government increases openness of financial and capital market.
