고등학교 『문학』 교과서에 수록된 외국문학 제재의 성격과 함의 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 2015 개정 국어과 교육과정에 근거하여 새롭게 편찬된 고등학교 『문학』 교과서 10종에 수록되어 있는 외국문학 제재의 현황과 특징을 분석함으로써, 외국문학 정전의 성격을 고찰하고 학교 현장에서 문학교육이 추구해야 할 가치와 방향을 성찰하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 한국의 문학교육 장에서 외국문학 내용과 제재는 교육과정을 기반으로 체계적으로 제시된다. 외국문학의 내용 요소와 성취기준의 특징은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 개정 교육과정의 문학 교과목에서 외국문학과 직접 관련이 있는 내용 요소는 “한국문학과 외국문학”이다. 둘째, 교육과정에 새롭게 추가된 내용 요소인 “한국문학의 발전상”에 주목할 수 있으며, 이는 “한국문학과 외국문학”이라는 내용과 연계성을 갖는다. 이를 바탕으로 『문학』 교과서의 외국문학 제재 선정 및 수록 양상을 문헌연구 방법과 트리컨티넨탈리즘의 시각에서 고찰한 결과, 다음과 같은 특징을 확인할 수 있다. 첫째, 2015 국어과 교육과정에 의해 편찬된 『문학』 교과서 10종의 외국문학 제재는 유럽적 전통과 명망주의를 반복 재생산하고 있다는 것. 이에 비해 라틴아메리카와 아프리카 대륙의 작품 비중은 더욱 축소되었다. 둘째, 아시아 중에서는 중국 문학의 비중이 월등히 높지만, 몽골, 베트남, 파키스탄 등과 같은 국가의 작품도 새롭게 포함되었다. 셋째, 『문학』 교과서에 수록된 42편의 외국문학 작품 중 15편만이 본문의 제재로 구성되어 있다는 점을 알 수 있다. 이와 같이 2015 개정 국어과 교육과정에 근거해 만들어진 『문학』 교과서 10종의 외국문학 텍스트는 서구 유럽의 문학 정전이 압도적인 위상을 차지하고 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 연구 내용을 바탕으로 고등학교 『문학』 교과서의 “외국문학” 제재 선정 방향을 제안하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 특정 대륙에 치우친 제재 선정과 명망 작가에 편중된 수록 형태를 보완해야 한다는 것. 둘째, 당대 작가의 작품도 교과서 안에서 만날 수 있는 계기를 마련해야 한다는 것. 셋째, 외국문학 작품을 본문 제재로 더 많이 다루어야 한다는 점이다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the current status and characteristics of foreign literary subjects in the 10 kinds of high school literature textbooks that have been newly compiled based on the 2015 revised Korean language curriculum. Through this, we will examine the characteristic of the foreign literature canon and reflect on the values and directions that literary education should pursue at school sites. The content and formulation of foreign literature are systematically presented based on the curriculum. The content elements and achievement standards of foreign literature are as follows: First, in the literature course of the revised curriculum, the content element directly related to foreign literature is “Korean literature and foreign literature.” Second, “The Development of Korean Literature,” which has a content linkage with “Korean Literature and Foreign Literature,” was newly added to the curriculum. The following characteristics can be confirmed by examining the literature research methods and the aspects of tricontinentalism in selecting and collecting foreign literature subjects in the textbook. First, the foreign literature subjects of the 10 kinds of Literature textbooks compiled by the 2015 Korean Language Curriculum repeatedly reproduce European tradition and prestige. However, the proportion of literature from Latin American and Africa was further reduced. Second, the proportion of Chinese literature among Asian works is significantly higher. However, it can be seen that new literature from countries such as Mongolia, Vietnam, and Pakistan are also included. Third, only 15 of the 42 foreign literary works included in the “Literature” textbook consist of main text. Thus, it was confirmed that Western European literature texts comprise the majority of the texts of the 10 kinds of literature textbooks based on the 2015 revised Korean language curriculum. This research suggests that in selecting “foreign literature” texts in high school “Literature” textbooks, first, it is necessary to improve the morphology of selecting a text that is biased to a specific continent and to focus on famous authors; second, the work of contemporary artists should also be provided in textbooks; and third, more foreign literature works should be covered as main text.
