대학 글쓰기 수업에서 젠더 이슈를 다루는 방법

국문 초록

이 논문은 1학년 학생들을 대상으로 하는 대학 글쓰기에서 젠더 문제를 다룰 때 전체적인 학생들의 수준이 고르지 않다는 점을 감안하여 수업 계획을 짜야 하는 일의 중요성에서부터 출발하였다. 페미니즘에 대한 오해로 인해 젠더 관련 논의들이 공전하지 않도록 하는 일이 어느 때보다 중요하기 때문이다. 젠더 문제는 포괄적이지만 여기서는 임신중단에 초점을 두고 생명권과 자기결정권의 문제로 좁힘으로써 학생들이 다루기 쉽도록 구체화했다. 임신중단과 관련해서 고등학교 때까지의 교육과정을 보면 생명존중과 자기결정권의 의미를 제대로 파악하기 힘들게 되어 있다. 특히 생명존중과 자기결정권의 관계를 대립적이고 고정적으로 간주함으로써 다른 논의의 가능성을 배제하였다. 대학 교양교육에서는 자기결정권을 제대로 이해함으로써 자기결정권이 낙태를 할 결정만이 아니라 그 반대의 결정을 할 수 있는 권리이기도 하다는 점, 생명존중을 이해하기 위해서도 자기결정권의 함의들을 파악해야 한다는 점, 자기결정권을 심하게 제한하지 않으면서 이 문제를 합리적으로 해결할 수 있는 방법 모색이 가능하다는 점을 강조할 필요가 있다. 이를 위해 이 논문에서는 정서적 경험과 논리적 언어를 결합하는 방식의 수업을 계획했다. 이를 세분화하자면 정서적인 측면에서는 상상력을 발휘하여 공감하는 마음을 갖도록 하는 것이고 철학적 접근에서는 열린 시각, 거시적 시각을 갖도록 하는 것이고, 논리적 글쓰기에서는 앞의 활동을 실질적인 문제에 적용하여 분석해볼 수 있는 기회를 주는 것이다. 기본적으로는 대학 글쓰기의 ‘읽기- 쓰기모형’(reading to writing)을 적용한 것이지만 인지주의 방법이나 논리적 방법에만 집중되어 있는 한계를 극복하기 위한 시도가 포함된 것이다. 그러나 피드백이나 평가에서 교수자는 인지주의적 방법과 과정중심의 글쓰기 장점을 반영할 필요가 있다. 젠더에 대한 이해는 여전히 학생들마다 차이가 있기 때문에 결과중심보다는 학습자가 통과한 경험과 논리화과정 안에서 발견한 것들에 대한 과정평가가 중요하기 때문이다.

영문 초록

This article posits that the lesson plans should be developed in consideration of the uneven levels of students in terms of thinking and expression in writing when covering the gender issue with liberal arts college freshmen. Although the gender issue is comprehensive, we looked intensively into the aspects of emotion, philosophy, law, and system with a focus on abortion. We confirmed that in education courses related to abortion up through high school, it is difficult to properly explain the meaning of the right to respect life and self-determination. In particular, it excluded other possibilities by regarding the relationship between the right to respect life and self-determination as being fixed and conflicting. Hence, the liberal arts in college focuses on the capability to view this problem from the perspective of the misunderstanding of feminism and that the understanding of various implications of the right to self-determination is needed to properly determine the meaning of life respect. Further, the right to self-determination does not conflict with respect for life as such respect is not limited to the decision of abortion; there is a way to reasonably solve this problem without severely restricting the right to self-determination. To do so, this article suggests a 3-pronged approach involving the approach of emotion, philosophy, and law and systems. Emotionally, one can have sympathy; philosophically, one can have a macroscopic view over a fixed idea; and regarding the law and systems one can have the opportunity to analyze practical problems. Basically, the “reading to writing” approach to college writing is applied, but it includes attempts to overcome the limitations that are focused only on cognition and logic. However, when it comes to feedback or evaluation, instructors need to reflect on cognitive methods and process-oriented writing advantages. Because levels of gender understanding still differ among students, it is important to evaluate the experiences of learners that have completed the curriculum and the findings in the logical process rather than focusing on the results.
