국문 초록

본 연구는 우리나라 해외진출 중소기업의 핵심역량의 하나인 정보기술의 투자에 영향을 미치는 요인을 규명하고자 한다. 전략경영과 자원준거이론에 근거하여 해외진출 중소기업을 대상으로 한 실증분석으로 다음의 결과를 얻었다. 첫째, 해외시장의 경쟁압력은 정보기술투자와 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하지만 환경의 역동적인 변화로 인한 불확실성은 정보기술투자에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 외부 경영환경의 변화에 민첩하게 대응하기 위해 정보기술투자가 요구되고 있음을 의미한다. 둘째, 전략적 경쟁우위관점에서 운영효율화를 통한 비용우위와 차별화우위는 정보기술투자에 유의한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타나서 우리나라 중소기업의 정보기술투자가 아직 조직의 경쟁우위와 연계될 정도로 성숙도가 높지 않은 것으로 판단된다. 셋째, 최고경영자의 글로벌지향성과 정보화에 대한 지원의지는 중소기업의 정보기술투자에 유의하게 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이러한 분석결과는 기업규모가 상대적으로 작은 해외진출 중소기업의 정보기술투자 의사결정에 최고경영자의 영향이 크다는 것을 입증한다. 넷째, 해외시장 확대전략을 공격적으로 추진할수록 정보기술투자에 적극적인 것으로 분석되어 중소기업의 국제화에 정보기술의 유의미한 역할이 있음을 확인하였다. 결론적으로 심화되는 디지털 경영환경에서 해외진출 중소기업의 정보기술투자 의사결정에는 경영환경의 역동성, 최고경영자의 의지와 국제화 전략방향의 요인이 유의한 영향을 미치는 것을 실증적으로 규명하였다. 본 연구결과는 해외진출 중소기업의 전략의 수립과 이행에 있어 정보기술에 대한 고려가 요구되며 정보기술투자에는 환경적 요인과 기업요인이 다각적으로 영향을 미치고 있음을 확인한 것에 의미가 있다.

영문 초록

This study is to identify the determinant factors of information technology(IT) investment in Korean overseas small-medium firms. Based on strategic management and resource based view theory, the determinant factors such business environments, competitive advantages, top management intention, and international strategy are included in research hypothesis. The survey data of Korean SMEs was analyzed for the empirical hypothesis test by SPSS regression. The key findings are as follows. First, the foreign market competitive pressure has no impacts on IT investment, whereas industry dynamics and uncertainty has positive influences on IT investment. It means that the market uncertainty is the key consideration factor for IT investment more than market competition. Second, the competitive advantages in cost and differentiation have no impacts on IT investment. Third, top management’s global orientation and intentional supports have substantially strong positive impacts on IT investment. It implies that top management of SMEs has a critical role in IT investment decision. Lastly, the aggressive international expansion strategy also influences on IT investment. This research confirms that IT investment decision depends on multiple factors such as environmental uncertainty, top management commitment and international strategy. This result provides meaningful implications in practices that Korean overseas SMEs should consider information technology investment in strategic planning and execution in terms of strategic alignment and required capability.
