‘쉽다’가 구성하는 구문에 관한 몇 가지 문제

국문 초록

본고에서는 ‘쉽다’가 구성하는 구문이 보이는 몇 가지 문제를 고찰해 보았다. 우선 ‘쉽다’는 문맥에 따라 객관형용사와 주관형용사의 쓰임을 모두 갖는다. 주관형용사의 경우 2항 술어이고 객관형용사의 경우 1항 술어이다. 말뭉치의 빈도를 통해 보면 객관형용사의 쓰임이 많고 이 1항도 대체로 ‘-기’ 보절로 나타난다. 이때 ‘-기’ 보절 내에 있는 대격 논항이 주절의 주어로 인상되는 현상이 있다. 본고에서는 인상 전 구문과 인상 후 구문이 다른 의미와 다른 통사 구조를 가진 것으로 파악하였다. 드물게 ‘쉽다’가 개체 명사를 주어로 취할 경우, 해당 개체 명사는 ‘해당 명사를 가지고 할 수 있는 전형적인 사건’으로 해석이 된다. ‘쉽다’는 논항으로 사건이 올 것을 요구하고, 이에 개체 유형이 사건 유형으로 해석되기를 강요받는 것이다. 본고에서는 이를 유형 강제 이론으로 설명하였다. ‘쉽다’가 구성하는 구문은 크게 두 가지 의미로 대별된다. 하나는 사건의 하위 구조인 전개 과정과 결부되는 ‘수월 해석’이고, 다른 하나는 단일한 전체 사건과 결부되는 ‘빈번 해석’이 그것이다. 이 둘의 연결 고리는 ‘-을 수 있다’나 ‘잘’이 그러한 것처럼 능력을 나타내는 어휘가 어떤 일이 일어날 가능성을 나타내는 표현으로 문법화되는 현상에서 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

Through this article, I have considered some of issues of the construction of ‘swipta’. First, ‘swipta’ has two functions of the objective adjective and subjective adjective depending on the context. In the case that ‘swipta’ is a subjective adjective, it is a two-place predicate, and in the case that ‘swipta’ is an objective adjective, ‘swipta’ is a one-place predicate. Based on the frequency from corpus, ‘swipta’ almost has uses as objective adjectives. In this case, the argument of ‘swipta’ is the ‘-ki’ complement clause. At the same time, there is a phenomenon that the accusative argument in the ‘-ki’ complement clause is raised to the main clause as a subjective term. In this article, I figured out that these two sentences have different meanings and different syntax structures. Occasionally, when ‘swipta’ takes the physical individual nouns as the subject, these nouns are interpreted as ‘a typical event that can be done with that noun’. ‘swipta’ takes the event type as an argument, therefore, the noun is forced to be interpreted as the event type. In this paper, I explained it as the ‘type coercion theory’. Constructions of ‘swipta’ are divided into two meanings. One is the ‘manner interpretation’ relating to the development process as the sub-event structure, and the other is the ‘frequency interpretation’ relating to the single entire event. Concerning the link between these two interpretations, we can find it from the phenomenon that a lexical element expressing [ability] is grammaticalized to the one expressing possibility that some event can occur.
