영문 초록

Purpose– Duty-free business, which has a great impact on tourism, is also important for the country. Therefore, this study analyzes competitive items in Asia and analyzes ways to differentiate Korea’s exempted items. Design/methodology/approach– This paper is accompanied by the latest data from Moody’s David Report, a global duty-free distribution magazine. It reconstructed research data for the 2014-2017 generation and analyzed patterns of duty-free consumption and changes in the competitiveness of items in the Asian market between 2014 and 2018. Shift-share analysis and regional growth differential analysis were carried out. Findings–Asia’s growth rate was higher than the world’s, especially Korea’s perfumes and cosmetics, had a great impact on Asia’s growth and should be measured and specialized as a growth industry. It also requires the country to come up with policies on these items as potential industries are analyzed in some other items. Research implications or Originality– Most of the duty-free research is limited to domestic duty-free shops or focused on institutional aspects, or mostly related to the competitiveness of Chinese tourists and duty-free shops, but not much has been studied for each product sold at duty-free shops. It is believed that the study will be able to identify competitive products in the Asian duty-free market and come up with policies that utilize them.
