결혼가치관의 변화가 초혼이행에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

최근 비혼과 만혼이 증가하는 현상에 대해 결혼가치관을 중요 요인으로 분석하는 연구가 증가하고 있다. 하지만 성별, 연령, 혼인상태 등의 개인적 배경에 따른 결혼가치관의 횡단적 비교가 다수인 반면 가치관의 종단적 변화가 혼인이행에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 연구는 상대적으로 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국여성정책연구원이 수집한 ‘여성가족패널조사(KLoWF)’ 자료를 이용하여 결혼과 관련된 가치관의 변화가 혼인이행/비혼유지에 미치는 영향을 이산시간 사건사 회귀모형(discrete-time event-history regression model)으로 분석하였다. 먼저 제1차 조사를 기준으로 비혼인 여성들로 표본을 제한한 후, 패널조사 기간 동안의 혼인이행 여부와 그 시기를 파악할 수 있는 443명을 대상으로 초혼으로 이행한 여성들은 혼인 이행 직전의 조사 차수에서 결혼가치관을 측정하고, 비혼상태를 유지한 여성들은 제5차 조사에서 동일한 변수를 측정하였다. 다음으로 비혼유지 여부를 종속변수로 하고 다양한 시변변수들과 시불변 변수들을 예측변인으로 투입한 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 혼인 직전의 결혼가치관이 혼인이행에 유의미한 영향력을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이어서 혼인이행 여부에 따른 결혼가치관의 변화를 분석하였는데, 비혼유지 집단과 초혼이행 집단의 가치관은 처음에는 차이가 없었으나, 초혼이행 집단은 혼인 직전의 가치관이 처음보다 전통적으로 변화한 반면 비혼유지 집단은 보다 비전통적으로 변화한 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 혼인이행에 결혼가치관이 중요한 변수로 작용하고 있으며, 특히 비혼에서 초혼으로 전이가 일어나는 시점인 혼인 직전의 가치관을 측정하여 시간에 따라 변화하는 요인의 영향을 분석할 필요가 있다는 점을 시사한다.

영문 초록

In recent years, increasing numbers of studies have examined the relation between marital attitudes and the act of entering into marriage. While many cross-sectional studies showing that attitudes toward marriage differ by personal backgrounds such as gender, age, and marital status, longitudinal research concerned with how marital attitude change could affect transition to marriage is relatively few. From this background, our study analyzes the impact of changing attitudes of unmarried women on their decision to get married or remaining single. Using the panel data of Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families(KLoWF), we initially restricted our sample from the first wave of the panel data to 1,208 unmarried women. We further censored the respondents who fail to provide valid data on the timing of their first marriage, and this process left us an effective sample of 443. For those who married during the six waves of the panel data, their marital attitudes are measured at the wave immediately before the transition to first marriage whereas for those who remain single until the end(the sixth wave), the same set of variables are measured from the fifth wave of the data. The results from our discrete-time event-history regression models suggest that marital attitude change is an important factor on the transition to marriage, and they should be measured at the point immediately before the act of entering into first marriage.
