무형자산성지출이 기업성과에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

지금까지 선행연구에서는 유형자산에 대한 투자는 기업성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다는 일관된 연구결과를 제시한 반면, 무형자산성지출이 기업성과에 미치는 영향을 분석한 연구들은 상반된 연구결과를 제시하여 왔으며, 최근에는 대부분 긍정적인 연구결과를 보고하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 대부분의 선행연구들이 방법론으로 OLS분석을 사용하거나 자의적으로 표본을 구분하여 분석을 수행하였다는 점을 보완하기 위하여 분위회귀분석(QR : Quantile regression)을 적용하여 무형자산성지출과 기업성과간의 관계를 비교분석하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 선행연구와 유사하게 OLS분석결과 유형자산과 연구개발지출은 기업성과에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, QR분석에서는 모든 분위에서 기업성과와 긍정적인 관련성을 나타냈다. 반면, 광고선전비와 교육훈련비의 경우에는 OLS분석결과 기업성과에 긍정적인 영향을 보고하였지만, QR분석에서는 일부 중간 분위에서만 기업성과에 유의적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 대부분의 선행연구들이 사용한 OLS분석이 평균적인 기업의 특성만을 반영하고 있으며, 성과수준이 낮거나 높은 분위에서는 정확하게 그 관련성을 나타내지 못하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 QR분석을 통해 OLS분석결과를 보완함으로써 무형자산성지출과 기업성과 간의 관련성을 좀 더 명확하고 체계적으로 분석하였다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Previous studies have shown consistent research findings that investment in tangible assets has a positive effect on corporate performance, while studies analyzing the effects of intangible asset expenditure on corporate performance have presented conflicting findings. In recent years, most have reported positive findings. Therefore, in order to supplement the fact that most previous studies used OLS analysis as a methodology or arbitrarily divided samples, Quantile regression (QR) analysis was used to examine the relationship between intangible asset expenditure and corporate performance to Comparative analysis. The results of OLS analysis showed that tangible assets and R&D expenditures had a significant effect on corporate performance, and QR analysis showed positive correlation with corporate performance in all quantiles. On the other hand, the advertising and training expenses reported positive effects on corporate performance as a result of OLS analysis, but QR analysis showed a significant influence on corporate performance only in the central quantile. Therefore, the OLS analysis used by most of the previous studies reflects only the characteristics of the average Firm, and it can be seen that the low level or high level of performance does not accurately indicate the relevance. This study is meaningful in that it analyzes the relationship between intangible asset expenditure and corporate performance more clearly and systematically by complementing OLS analysis results through QR analysis.
