우리나라 지도와 해도의 해양지명에 관한 연구

국문 초록

세상의 만물은 고유의 성격을 나타내는 이름을 가지고 있다. 땅에는 지명(地名)이 있으며, 바다에는 해양지명(海洋地名)이 있다. 또한 육지와 바다의 경계선에 있는 해안에도 독특한 지명이 있다. 지명은 고유 지명과 속성지명으로 이루어지는데, 해안에는 갑(岬), 각(角), 취(嘴), 기(琦), 두(頭), 등의 속성지명이 있다. 이 지명들의 명명유래를 살펴보면 우리나라의 비극적 역사가 묻혀있다. 해안 지명이 어떻게 명명되었으며 오늘날 까지 여과없이 사용되어 왔는지 옛 해도와 현재 사용하고 있는 항해용해도, 수로지와 구한말 조선총독부에서 간행한 축척 1/50,000의 지형도에 사용한 해안 지명에 대한 사례조사를 실시하였다. 이를 통하여 해안 지명을 비교, 검토하고 우리나라 주변 해안 지명의 표준화에 관한 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Everything in the universe has its own name to refer it. A piece of land and sea also have geographical names and marine geographical names respectively. Even each coast bordering land and sea has its own unique name. Names can be divided into two parts: proper names and attribute names. Coastal geographical names consist of attribute names such as Cape, Point Spit, Ki and Head. Some of these names have originated from nation s tragic history. This study conducts a case research on how existing coastal geographical names were designated in the first place and have retained them up to date. It also carries out an analysis on coast geographical names used in old charts as well as nautical charts, sailing directions and topographic maps in a scale of 1:50,000 published by Governor-general during the Japanese occupation. This study also compares and reviews ocean geographical names in general and presents methods to achieve standardization of coastal geographical names around Korea s waters.
