영문 초록

This present study attempts to investigate the effects of listening test methods on test performance, on the basis of Bachman and Palmer s theoretical framework (1996) of test task characteristics (or test method facets, 1990) focusing on the channel and sequence of test inputs. A preliminary analysis compared the effects of channel(oral vs. visual) and sequence (order and frequency of passage and question) for all data gathered for this study. For further analysis, the data was divided into two groups based on subjects’ level of ability to explore the effects of a moderator variable of different test methods on test performance. Following test delivery, a survey was conducted to subjects’ perceptions of varying types of listening test methods. The findings of the present research reveal that passages and questions should be presented twice for more valid measurements, and that the channel of questions should be considered to maximize the reliability and validity. Finally, the results strongly suggest that test task characteristics exert significant impact on test performance, and that it would be desirable to develop different types of testing methods to cater to specific educational needs and different ability levels of students.
