남녀대학생의 양가적 성차별주의가 낙태허용도에 미치는 영향과 결혼의향의 매개효과

국문 초록

본 연구는 남녀 대학생의 양가적 성차별주의가 낙태허용도에 영향을 미치는 사이에서 결혼의향의 매개효과를 탐색함으로써 한국의 낙태법의 개정 방향에 대한 단초를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해, 서울시 소재의 4년제 대학에 재학 중인 남자 대학생 166명과 여자 대학생 166명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남녀 대학생의 적대적 성차별을 상당히 낮은 수준이었으며 온정적 성차별은 다소 낮은 수준을 보였다. 결혼의향은 보통을 웃도는 수준으로 나타났으며, 낙태 허용도는 평균보다 약간 높은수준이었다. 둘째, 남성이고 연령이 높으며, 성관계 경험이 있고 가족의 월평균 소득이 높을수록 양가적 성차별 수준도 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 종교가 대학생의 결혼의향과 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 여성이고 종교가 없으며 성관계 경험이 있는 대학생이 낙태에 더 허용적인 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 적대적 성차별과 온정적 성차별 모두 낙태 허용도에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 적대적 성차별과 온정적 성차별 모두 그 수준이 낮을수록 낙태에 보다 허용적인 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 남녀 대학생의 양가적 성차별주의와 낙태 허용도 사이에서 결혼의향의 완전매개효과가 나타났다. 즉 양가적 성차별 수준이 높을수록 결혼의향이 높고, 결혼의향이 높을수록 낙태 허용도가 낮았다. 이상의 결과를 토대로 낙태에 대한 대학생의 태도를 살펴보고 향후 낙태법 개정 방향의 단초를 제시하고자 하였다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study was to provide a basis for amending the abortion law in Korea by exploring the mediating effect of marriage intention on the causal relationship between male and female university students’ ambivalent sexism and acceptance of abortion. For this purpose, 166 male and 166 female college students attending a four-year university in Seoul were surveyed. The results of this study are as follows. First, university students had a moderately low level of hostile sexism and a slightly low level of benevolent sexism. Their level of marriage intention was above average and acceptance of abortion was slightly higher than average. Second, the results indicated that the level of ambivalent sexism was higher for male and older students and also for those who had sexual experience and whose monthly family income was higher. Moreover, religion was found to be related to university students’ marriage intention, and greater acceptance of abortion was exhibited by female university students with sexual experience who have no religion. Third, the results indicated that both hostile sexism and benevolent sexism affected acceptance of abortion. Namely, the lower the university students’ hostile or benevolent sexism, the greater their acceptance of abortion. Fourth, marriage intention was shown to have a fully mediating effect on the relationship between ambivalent sexism and acceptance of abortion among male and female university students. That is, the higher the university students’ level of hostile or benevolent sexism, the higher their level of marriage intention and the higher their level of marriage intention, the lower their acceptance of abortion. Based on the aforementioned results, the attitudes of university students toward the currently much debated issue of abortion were examined and ways to amend the abortion law in the future were proposed.
