수호보-코브일린의 희곡 「사건」에서 관료제와 뇌물 테마 연구

국문 초록

본고는 수호보-코브일린의 삼부작 중 두 번째 작품인「사건」(1861)을 통해 관료제 시스템의 구조적 특징과 뇌물 테마를 연구한다. 삼부작 중 가장 자전적 요소가 강한 작품「사건」은 러시아 관료제도와 뇌물 문화에 대한 보고서로 읽혀질 수 있다. 외견상 「사건」의 테마는 뇌물이라는 전통적인 러시아 문학의 풍자에 초점을 맞추었다. 하지만 작가의 이 주제에 대한 독창적인 접근은 풍자라는 개념을 뛰어넘는다. 그네지치가 언급한 이 작품의 예언적 성격을 규명하기 위해서는 보다 정확한 분석이 필요하다. 우선 문화사적 측면에서 19세기 러시아에서 뇌물수수 전통의 뿌리인 관료제 시스템의 진단 후 문학적인 시학으로 넘어가야 한다. 「사건」의 사회문화적 관점을 통한 연구에서 러시아 관료제 시스템은 위계성, 집단성, 포식성 그리고 일체성이라는 4가지 특징으로 자신들의 시스템적인 운용을 보장 받는다는 사실을 확인할 수 있다. 그리고 이 시스템은 위계질서를 암시하는 도시인 페테르부르그의 흐로노토프 속에서 개인이 체제에 어떻게 굴복 당하는지 보여준다. 이는 문학적 관점에서 뇌물 테마의 새로운 시학적 해석 가능성을 보여준다. 이 작품은 20세기에 가장 강력했던 관료제 시스템의 예언이며, 또한 전통적인 풍자를 뛰어넘어 20세기에 이르러 문학적 양식의 주축이 되는 그로테스크로서「사건」을 바라보게 해 준다.

영문 초록

This study examines the structural features of the bureaucracy and the theme of bribery through “The Case”(1861), the second part of Sukhovo-Kobylin’s trilogy. “The Case”, the most autobiographical works in the trilogy, can be read as a report on Russian bureaucracy and bribery culture. Ostensibly, the theme of “The Case” focuses on the satire of Russian literature tradition, bribery. However, the writer’s creative approach to such subjects exceeds the notion of satire. The piece mentioned by Gnedich needs a more accurate analysis in order to establish the prophetic nature. It first needs a diagnosis of the bureaucracy system which is the roots of the bribery tradition in terms of cultural history in the 19th century Russia; and then to the literary poetics. A research through the sociocultural perspective of “The Case” shows that the Russian bureaucracy system is guaranteed to function its systematic operation through hierarchy, collectivity, predatory, and unity. And the system shows how individuals surrender under chronotope of Saint Petersburg, a city which implies a hierarchical order. This suggests the possibility of a new poetic interpretation of the bribery theme from a literary point of view. “The Case” is the most powerful prophecy of the bureaucratic system in the 20th century, and it allows us to observe “The Case” as a grotesque which becomes the mainstay of literary style from the traditional satire to the 20th century.
