영문 초록

This paper investigates the structural imagination of concept-expression relationships. Some semiotic ideas from Barthes and Pierce using connotations, icons, indexes, and symbols were studied. Design concepts were constructed on a joint imagination of a concept-expression relationship based on the connotation chain of icons, indexes, and symbols. The visual communication design case analysis indicates that such a connotation chain could be applied directly to design production. As an exploration into the concept-expression imagination, this study could provide a type of structural imagination for making more meaningful and communicative designs. In view of the results, the semiotic processes could contribute to enhancing the quality of design, especially in visual communication.
