국문 초록

땅이름은 자연과 인문 환경에 대한 거주민의 인식과 인지, 그곳에 대한 통치자의 지배 과정과 전략 등을 담지한 역사ㆍ문화적 표상이다. 본 연구는 행정 중심복합도시라는 초대형 국가사업에 따른 환경과 경관의 급변속에서 이 지역의 땅이름들이 어떻게 탄생하고 소멸하고 대체되었는지, 특히 이 과정에서 어떤 사회적 주체의 관심사가 주로 작동하였는지 혹은 서로 다른 주체들의 시선들이 어떻게 교차하였는지에 관해 고찰함으로써 이른바 땅이름 명명의 정치학에 접근하였다. 행정중심복합도시에는 수 백년 이상의 역사를 이어온 다양한 땅이름들이 있었다. 하지만 정부의 도시 개발 목적과 이에 상응하는 학술적 논리에 따라 기존의 땅이름들은 대부분 순우리말 위주의 새로운 땅이름들로 대체되었다. 뿐만 아니라 기존의 땅이름과 새로운 땅이름에 대한 기존 거주민, 신규 유입민, 지역 언론, 지자체 등의 인식 차이가 더해져 지명 명 명의 정치학을 복잡하게 구성하였다. 비록 땅이름에 접근하는 관점이나 입장이 시대나 주체에 따라 달라질 수 있음을 인정한다 하더라도, 땅이름이 지닌 역사적, 사회적, 문화적, 교육적 의미는 기억하고 기록으로 남길 가치가 있다.

영문 초록

A place name is a historio-cultural symbol bearing the recognition and perception of the residents to the nature and the human environment, and the ruling processes and strategies of the governor there. The purpose of this study is to investigate how those place names in Haengbokdosi (Administrative City of Korea) were born, destroyed and replaced in the sudden change of environment and landscape according to the construction of the new city, and to approach the so-called politics of place-naming examining how the gazes of the social subjects were involved or crossed. There were various place names in Haengbokdosi that have retained a history of hundreds of years. However, according to the purpose of the government s development and corresponding academic logic, most of the existing place names were replaced by new place names based on pure Korean language. In addition, the politics of place-naming was complicated by the difference in position among the indigenous residents, new entrants, local press, and local governments on the existing and new place names. Even if we admit that the viewpoint or position approaching a place name could be changed according with the periods or subjects, the historical, social, cultural, and educational meaning of the place name is worth remembering and recording for the future.
